I am heavily considering getting a 335i coupe in the next 6 months. I have always loved them and there power potential. I plan on having it under CPO until 2014 then I will be installing a HPF or Vishnu single turbo kit on it (stock turbos dont need to last past this). My question is aside from the hpfp issue, what do you think about the prospect of long term ownership? If I buy this I plan on keeping it for at least 4 years probably till 120-150k miles.

The Fuel Pump issue is what drove me away, but the N54 shares a lot of design qualities with the diesel, and cast-iron liners are always nice in a turbocharged aluminum block. I see no reason (vice, say, the Nikasil issue) that as long as your HPFP is healthy that these cars won't last a very long time. 150K miles ought to be easily doable.
However, Ze Germans need a Final Solution for this fuel pump thing.

I think the 335i is a good car that would last for quite a while, but you could get an E46 M3 for quite a bit less (much more engaging car to drive IMO) or if you really want the turbos you could pick up a 135i from the same year range in the very-low $20k range.
Then again, the E90/1/2/3s have never done that much for me. :dunno:

Yeah, I love the GTI but I'm ready to go back to RightwheelDrive. And I looked into135is they just don't do it for me and moneys not a issue. The single turbo kits are making 650whp ATM and 750whp has been hit on a prototype kit. The 2007-2009 have fully forged internals which I love. As long as its worth keeping after CPO I'm sold. The HPFP issue has been worked on by aftermarket companies from what I hear. I did think about the E46 M but I would like a newer car with a warrenty. Only reason I'm not going for the e92 M3 is the fact that they are still 10k out of my price range and I won't be on a track 95 percent of the time

Whatever floats your rubber ducky. Its certainly not a bad car. Its a long shot, but if you're looking to sell the GTI in 6 months or so, shoot me a PM. I'm not 100% sure that's what I want, but hopefully I'll be in the market for a daily around that timeframe. :thumbup:

i think the early cars ran really high oil temps. did BMW add coolers to the later cars?

the 08 and forward all have small factory oil coolers, all sport package cars have a larger than factory oil cooler I believe.

Yeah Its a 06 DSG Candy White 2 Door with 77k miles atm. Package 2 leather seats( front are heated) , dual climate control and 6 CD changer. Its honestly been pretty maintenance free. I will be changing the DSG fluid, tires and brakes all the way around in the next 3k miles. The major 06 defects are all under warranty till 120k miles and I just had the AC system replaced when I got it. I will defiantly look to sell it to you if your interested at that point in time. I will probably be buying a new car December/January but I do get impatient so it may be slightly earlier.

08 and above good stuff! All 335i of that year and up also have an extended warranty on their fuel pumps up to 120,000. They were changing out for a newer design that still had problems. However, recently, they moved to the 1M fuel pump and that seems to have helped the problem...up to now.
I will tell you though, My friends 08 was in the dealer every other week with little issues including 4 replaced fuel pumps. Yeah, its free, but who wants to deal with the dealer that often?
