I'm considering getting a scan tool for resetting maintenance lights and and checking CELs, but wanted to see if anybody had any recommendations or experiences that they could provide.
I'm considering this: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.peakeresearch.com/fcx3.htm">http://www.peakeresearch.com/fcx3.htm</a><!-- m -->
Also, if anybody already has one and is willing to share/rent it, that'd be good to know. Otherwise I'll probably end up getting it and will rent it to MMers if they need it.
I got a deal on all 3 of them, CEL, SRS, Oil Light Reset - pretty useless since the CEL does it too.
I'm really glad I got them, I've only thrown one CEL and after reseting it never saw it again, but I feel its a worthy investment.
I'm pretty sure you aren't in nova, so if you end up needing one, let me know and I'll get it down to you.
I'm going to need to reset my maintenance countdown pretty soon. I'd love to borrow / rent the tool from someone.
My two feet.

Can I borrow the CEL (it does oil light resets right?) ?

BMWs need a special tool to reset your maintenance light? Ouch. It can be done on my Acura from the steering wheel.

I've got a scangauge II which isn't a specific BMW tool but something for any car with an OBD-II port. It can read and reset CELs but it sounds like the maintenance lights are specific for BMWs?
