BMW X5/6 M?!?

I don't know how many of you knew about this already but I just saw it. I'm on the fence about it, I guess it's the same as the Cayenne S, kinda cool 555hp in a SUV must be intense. Thoughts?

I don't see how an M version could not look like dog doo (the X6).

Saw it at NYIAS when they did their little press unveil. To be honest, I don't see the point. It looks like nothing more than a fastback X5. I'm sure it handles better than the X5 does, but I don't see why an X5 customer would pick the X6 instead.

Having an X5 M and X6 M, also seems pointless. Why not just make one? I never really bought into the high-performance SUV concept a la the Porsche Cayenne but I guess that sells well for Porsche, so maybe there is a market for this thing after all.

But if I had to put my chips down I'd have to bet that the X6 is going to be a big flop. BMW should've spent their money on a supercar or de-uglifying the 6 series or something.

they aren't made of money ya know......

I really do have trouble seeing where the X6 fits in, I mean wasn't the X5 a "sports-activity vehicle" so what does that make the X6 (other than an abomnination) a "sportier-activity vehicle"

As far as M versions go. I hear people talking about these "muddy-ing" the M water, but the Cayenne was supposedly "muddy-ing" the Porsche waters - but if its keeping them in business I can't really argue against it.

Despite what lots of people want to believe, these guys are out here to make money not bless car enthusiasts with H & B material.

my neighbor bought 2 x6's when they came out, and i got to drive one for a week.

my mother has an x5, and I have driven that many a times. Honestly the handling is so minimal, that I do not see the point of the x6.

all it does is give less head room in the rear, and less trunk space, and looks like some weird, non attractive shape.

I think it was pointless for BMW to bring that car to compete w/ the FX.

He bought the cars to flip. He bought them brand new, kept em for 3 months, and sold them 3x the price in Morocco, apparently the Europeans didn't get the x6, it was a US car. like the 944. I could be wrong about this, but pretty sure it was released here first.

see its kind of like the Mercedes CLS, except I find that painstakingly beautiful compared to a regular E Class and would easily get a CLS over an E

but the X6 isn't more attractive and thats its downfall

my question...why? aren't SAV's the anti-performance platform (with regards to road performance)

I think the performance SUV market is kinda neat, definitely a niche market however not for everyone. The idea of something like the SRT8 Jeep which pulls a sub 5 second 0-60 is cool. Especially with all the room, it's like having an even bigger hatchback. From what I've read it pulls .91g stock, better than my car now lol.

Also wanted to add though that the X6 is both ugly and overkill.
