I've been considering Vista for awhile for various reasons. No, I don't need to upgrade but there a few features that I'd really like to have.
I've done all the reading, talked to all the techies and I think I might make the switch. While I'm doing the upgrading, I thought I might as well go to 64-bit to support more RAM and get t3h b00st. I'm currently at 2gb, but am considering getting 2x2gb for the other two slots at the time of upgrade.
Is anyone running it and if you are, have you experienced any issues with specific 32-bit programs?

Im running 64bit Vista Ultimate on my HTPC.
Works fine. All 32 bit apps run just as quick as a native 32bit OS.
No real reason not to go 64bit. More ram, more speed. Only drawback is the larger memory footprint of 64bit memory addresses, which you wont even notice.
How much RAM do you have?
You're running photography and video editing software, right? The ones I really care about are Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Lightroom and Sony Vegas. So far, the only thing I've found is that my version of Vegas (7.0) won't install on 64-bit.

i have noticed that it seems like it does make you take a bit of a performance gain. I have it on my dual core laptop, and it has a hell of a time running counter-strike smoothly..and that game is 8 years old.

Anne's laptop is Home Premium and runs fine with 1GB but that is pushing it.
this is my media / home theater PC so it doesnt get much regular desktop use like photoshop etc.
Lots of 1080p movie crunching though so it does get a hard workout though.
There really isnt a reason that any software shouldnt run. Any 32 bit app runs in 32bit mode which appears to the software just like a 32 bit OS.
Of all the complaints Ive heard of vista, I havent heard anything about software compatibility (just drivers)

Probably because CS can't handle 64-bit. I know a lot of older programs have issues with 64-bit when they're using 32-bit drivers. Most current programs have updates or work right but those old, non-supported ones are kinda at a loss.

2 x 1GB PC2-5300 (considering adding 2 x 2GB)
500GB SATA
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (256MB)
I know Lightroom 2 is 64-bit native but I'm on CS3 and it's not. CS4 is but well... I don't have it... yet. Vegas 8.0 is 64-bit compatible but 8.1 (supposed free download from 8.0) is native. I'm more concerned about 32-bit just flat out refusing to run than I am 64-bit native at this point. I can upgrade to native as time permits (and they're released).
Experience any driver issues with peripherals?

CS4 also supports GPU acceleration which is pretty pimp.
yeah vista should be zippy with that setup. if you upgrade ram make sure its at least DDR2-800 (PC6400), your current ram is slower than your bus speed.
the only driver issue I have had is oddly, for my HP LaserJet 1012.
be prepared to hate UAC. by far the worst part of vista.
So yeah... I umm... "found" Vegas 8.0 on my machine and it only took 6 minutes. I must not have realized I already installed it.  I guess I'll look for CS4 next.
The 2x2GB is PC-6400 and at $40 for the pair, I'm half tempted to dump the PC-5300 and go to 8GB.

We've already had this discussion, but Vista 64 has been fine for me. 4 gigs of ram. Probably go to 8 when I get a couple of bucks. (Why not, eh?)
