OG Rice makes a comeback

whats up guys, it's been a while since ive had a car to mess around with and actually feel fairly safe taking to an autocross/track. The headgasket in the volvo i was driving blew out so i was forced to find another dd/beater. I wanted something cheap, reliable and good on gas. Called a few of my buddies i used to work on hondas with to see if there were any deals flyin around. Sure enough my best friend in HS had a 1991 crx hf he just finished swapping, 1500 bucks and only a few catches.

The Good
-143k miles on chassis, 90ish on engine, god only knows on si transmission
-converted to OBD1, JDM d15b sohv vtec
-chipped p28 ecu
-4-2-1 Megan Racing Header
-ACT stage 2 clutch
-no check engine, no surge

The Bad
-rear driver spring looks cut and looks like it broke off the upper spring perch or something, i dunno it rides like hell, infamous rice bounce
-interior looks straight outta the early 90s(duh)
-no ac, no PS, no PDL or PW........only thing powered is the brakes

The Ugly
-Oh god the color is horrid, someone painted this thing like mopar bright green, its pretty blinding and ugly
-5" monster tach with shift light......gonna sell asap
-exhaust note sounds raspy from like 2-3.5k rpms
-oh god those fenders are hideous :Confusedhakes head::

I Threw some del sol wheels i had laying around on it since the steelies had crap tires on em.

Ill get some pics up of the green monster with the del slo wheels some day that isnt a cell photo, but heres an idea just how riced out i am

You might want to look for factory Oil Cooler taps on that motor. If it has them, i recommend adding an aftermarket cooler if the swap didnt include one. D series Vtec motors need lots of OIL... and driving them hard without one will cause the motor to spin bearings.

yea i dont plan on running the car hard, it is my DD after all, ill check on the interwebs if its got the taps for an oil cooler, but for right now the only hard driving its gonna get is at the next verona autocross. Oh yea the battery was relocated to the hatch too. Car seems fairly light cause the 1.5 torqueless motor seems to pull it well even at low rpms. For 1500 bucks i dont think i coulda beat that deal. One problem i seem to be having is with the speedo cable tho. It's a crx si tranny and hf speedo cable/cluster. I got it in there real good but it wasnt reading the correct speed. I'm rockin a GPS unit with speed readout right now lol. Wonderin if the HF model cluster and cable dont mate with the si VSS, kaan? anyone? Other than that so far so good, seems to get good gas mileage but with the odometer not working due to speedo problems i wont have a good calculation for a while.

the clip is either gone or the cable snapped... i'm pretty sure it works... slide under and find out.

good luck at the autox with a broken/cut spring and spinning that motor without extra oil in the system. it takes more than one ass whipping to break it, but its not healthy for it.

i pulled the cable out and stuck a drill on it and it spun up the speedo, and the cable was good and stuck in the vss last night, what is this clip you speak of?

there is a clip that holds the cable into the trans. if thats missing its probably sitting in the hole but not connected to the drive.

edit: it also has to go in a certain way to mate up properly... then you clip it on and go.

i thought i saw something like that on a pic for another ef model tranny, its just one of those pull out clips that goes through a hole on the cable right?

edit: yea i know its got that little nub that needs to line up into the tranny, i can line it up and get it in there it would just pop out, tried taping it in(rofl i told you im a ricer) but ill see if i cant get a clip for it or if the clip is still in it, that makes perfect sense tho kaan, thanks alot for helpin me out

nope... its a funky shape that clips around the cable and the fitting on the trans. There is no hole in the cable, but generally two empty slots on either side of the trans fitting... it slides around one side and then hold the cable via the two slots. i lost mine... i made a new one out of an injector spring.
