valve tick and gas mileage
#1
so as some of you may already know, i f'ed up my integra's valve clearances by trying to do it myself. i've had some nasty valve ticking noise for a few months now and i just monitored my gas mileage for the first time. its down. way down. i'm getting ~23mpg on a B18B. i know valve clearance issues can affect gas mileage, but my question is, can the exhaust valve clearance affect it, or would it be strictly an intake valve clearance issue?

i have a good feeling it would as well. Not releasing the waste from in sufficient clearances? not sure, just putting that out there.

both have an impact on gas mileage. Think of it this way, the intake valves if not clearanced properly will cause poor gas mileage by letting either too much or too little air in the cyls. The exhaust issue is similar, if the spent gasses are released too early you are having an efficiency problem. Thus you are required to use more throttle and fuel to obtain the same amount of usable power that you would if it were releasing the spent gases at the exact moment it should.

are you gonna try to reset those clearances to factory by yourself, or get someone to do it? and just to let you know, my accord sounds like a diesel in the morning...it just has huge valve clearance from the factory. don't know why.
