STOLEN MIATA

My car was getting the final painting touches put on it at a local shop when someone broke into the shop and stole it along with some other stuff sometime between Thursday after 6pm and this morning at 11am when the shop owner called me. Be on the look out for a caged freshly painted white Miata for sale......

Scott, very sorry to hear about this, was it previously your red Miata on panasports? (I recall you having two Miatas...) If so, got a license plate, VIN, etc you can give us? I'll keep a look out around here and on eBay, I hope you get your car back quickly

Nope not the red one, this one was a blue '91 that was stripped when I got it. I am trying to dig up the vin on it

Jeeze Scott, horrible to hear. Best of luck in recovering it. I'm nonstop searching local craigslist ads for miatas so I'll keep my eye out.

sorry to hear that scott. I read about it in the sandbox, sounds pretty shady to me.

I imagine scott didnt have it insured since it was a tub. Besdies, even if he did, its the shop's responsibility I would think.

Torched, along with a couple of others. The car was not insured, and the shop had signs everywhere stating that it is no responsible for lost/stolen items. I'll cross that bridge tomorrow.

Anyone know of a cheap NA Miata for sale.....

That really sucks, and those signs are a hair on the sketchy side... I'd have a hard time believing that a business could be legally absolved of all responsibility for vehicles in their possession just by saying "we're not." It may be a case of "you saw the signs, you had the chance to evaluate their security before hand," but I'm not sure I buy it.

Why on earth would the they torch the car, anyway?

I don't know if you're on the Miata.net forums, but I would put up a WTB ad in the Classifieds section if I were you. It's free, and it's how I found my NA (or rather, how it found me).

Good luck pursuing things with the shop, if you can.

i'd also be hard-pressed to believe that the shop isn't responsible for cars in their possession. i'd seek legal guidance for something like that.

The shop should have garage owner's coverage that covers other people's vehicles while in their care. I don't know how that works when the owner's car is uninsured, but I'd definitely put the squeeze on the shop owner.

Why would they torch a Miata tub? How could that possibly be worthy of going to jail for theft? Seems very fishy indeed. My money is on the owner of the shop filing with his ins co. As a licensed Insurance Agent I hate to hear about Ins Fraud. It makes all of us pay more in the form of higher premiums.....
