The state increased the registration fees after the excessive speeding fines were removed... I got the check a few weeks ago after getting violated for registering the VW.

http://www.thenovaauthority.org/ - I'm trying to figure out what it is exactly they do... they want to collect money, but is this group doing the infrastructure improvements? I thought that was the point of VDOT?

All I know is that only a few years ago, I paid $26.50 to register my Suby for 1 year. I just renewed the registration for it a few weeks back and paid $99 for two years ($44.50/yr.)

I'm also paying $36.50 per car per year on the county registration as well. I think both of those were like $25 last year or two years ago.

So they removed the extra 1% fee on initial registration and increased that fee instead... fucking shysters.

I guess they keep lowering the increases and spreading them out until they find the threshold where people dont bitch too loudly.

I know but Ill be moving to virginia within the next couple months and was curious about the change in laws. Can anyone explain what changed if any? I remember hearing that a wreckless driving ticket (25+) could get you a $3000 fine or something along those lines. Some insight would be appreciated.

Those fines were removed. The increased registration 'tax' when you first register a vehicle is removed. Carry on.
