stereo / headunit fit
#1
I have an 03 Dakota and at Circuit City recently saw the Eclipse AVN2210p for $500. I really like this little feller. Unfortunately the people at Crutchfield have informed me the following:
Quote:In regard to your e-mail about the fitment of the Eclipse AVN2210P receiver into your 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad cab pickup, I will be happy to help you. The reason it will not fit is that the dash opening is not tall enough. The opening for a receiver is only 3-7/16" and this receiver needs 4". Now you may be able to modify the dash to take this bigger size, but it will not be easy. You may want to contact a local custom installer for help. Here is a link back to the receiver:
So this is obviously going to involve some h4x0ring. Anyone in the nova area with stereo experience interested in pulling apart my dash and seeing what we're dealing with and would have some good ideas for rigging up a solution? This would just be exploratory surgery right now.

PM Jeff. He's not in Nova, but if anyone here can do a good job, it'll be him.

When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

If he doesn't get back to you immediately it's because he's putting ice on his swollen nutsack.

ok, as for my nutsack...it was slightly swollen after Rex gave me the ole' George Foreman KO to the twig and berries...but its all better now.

ANYWAY- Yes, a double din player will not fit in an 03 Dakota without modification to the dash panel. Chrysler radios are what is called din.5, so roughly half a din short. We can use a standard dash kit to trim out the side panels and cut out the top and bottom to make it fit. Brackets can be made from back-strap easily enough. PM me if you want further explanation, I would recommend against it. A flip out would be easier.

Did the Sex Cannon get ya? I hear half of Oakland's cheerleaders are pregnant now. (that's only funny if you read KSK)

I don't know of a flipout for $500 with GPS (especially one that pops out so I can walk around with it). Input appreciated though.

The GPS in that old eclipse is a POS anyway...for the record.

Define POS.

Will it get me to where I'm going?
