if you don't want to pain the car after you do it ...don't do this. It can be done without messing up the paint, but it is very hard and you seem picky with your car. I've done it on an e30 BMW, Pete D. has the tool, I think he rents it for like $50. Its beat up though, makes it harder to do it without boning the paint.

How much are you wanting to roll them? If you want to tuck the lip under and that's it, you have an 80% success rate with even heat and patience. It also depends on how old the vehicle is. An 80's E30 is going to have much less tolerant paint than a 2006 Mustang.

a heat gun and pete's tool is all you need. I didn't really care about the paint, but we rolled the fenders on my 240sx a lot, without heating it, and it still didn't crack up like we expected.
That tool rocks my world; Jeff was having trouble b/c he was probably using it on a TD, which means it had bigger problems at hand... :-)

Nope. No TDs involved in this. I did it on a 90 325is. The paint did not matter...but I still did pretty well considering, only a crack or two. We used lots of heat, Pete's tool, and a hammer and dolly in a few places. It turned out nice, but you MUST take your time. Like Pete says, rolling just the lip in is easy no problem at all. If you are doing more (Nick and I were rolling his out like 1.5-2 inches if I remember correctly) it is much harder to get uniform results that won't make you go, "damn, wish I would have left that be."

What I meant about the tool being beat up, we kept having it fall apart. I looked up the instructions so I'm 99% sure I was doing it as it was intended and not stressing the tool excessively. It had a bolt that kept coming out, I don't remember which one, the threads were messed up. And the roller had a large cut it in, which would not matter, unless you were worried about the edge of it against the paint on the wheel well. This is all from my memory and from a year ago. Maybe its all fixed and better now? Maybe my memory fails me?
