My latest bad idea...

Another distributor = $50 on ebay.

I pulled out the service manual and a multimeter last night, the ignition control box inside the distributor is dead. Which also means, my spare that I had is dead.....

New distributor arrived today, and took care of a few little things. Cleaned all the crap out of the interior, put the dash panels back in (everything was in the trunk), fixed some speaker connections, fixed a short on the cigarette lighter wiring (so that I could plug my sirius in) and ran it through the car wash. The PO had no idea how to remove a radio, so that is a little jacked up and there is something odd going on with the wiring behind it - I still have the old stock radio from my racecar so I will throw that in this weekend. There is also a hole somewhere in the muffler, I will go cheapass and get a "muffler bandage" from vatozone to fix that.

After running around in it this evening, this thing runs fuckin great and its a lot of fun to toss around. I will probably keep it through the winter and when it the weather warms up and I'm riding the bike to work every day I'll turn my profit on it.

At that point won't you have eroded any profit by having to pay for registration and insurance?

Registration was $50.

I should be able to profit around $2k on it.

Hooooooo kay, fiasco time!

Brought it in to change the oil, trans fluid, figure out why it stumbles on throttle opening, pull the wheels off and give the car a look over. Oil looked good, trans fluid was like mud - as expected, it didnt shift for shit when cold. Plugs looked ok, but need changing, throttle body wasnt clogged up with crap. Everything inside the wheels looks good. Put everything back together and the car doesnt hold an idle and runs awful at part throttle.

After checking everything, and retracing everything I did, I found a cracked hose that feeds the idle air control, cracked on the bottom where you couldnt see it. I must have nicked it when pulling the intake off.

The throttle stumbling was a backwards check valve, there's a little dashpot with a diaphram in it that keeps the throttle from closing too quickly - it was backwards, keeping it from opening too quickly.

*phew*

Also, I noticed the muffler hanging a bit low and something hanging out of it... i gave it a tug, and it sort of wanted to fall off... so I unbolted it from the b-pipe and it did. I guess i have to get another one now - its quieter without the "muffler" on, so maybe I'll still drive it to work tomorrow Wink
