Dr. Wankel was German. If the rotary were a french design, it would spit out bread and smelly cheese when it surrendered, instead of apex seals.

Its a shame because the rotary suffers from being rather underdeveloped compared to piston-engines. If even two or three manufacturers were putting R&D into rotaries they'd be significantly more advanced than they are now.
This is why I think Mazda is not putting their motorsports budget to the best use possible with what they're doing right now. They should concentrate on developing their Le Mans LMP2 car into being a contender so they can continue to learn and improve the Renesis. I don't know how much they're spending on stuff like World Challenge Touring Car, Grand Am Cup, Grand Am GT, and Pro Spec Miata but I have to match its at least a couple of hundred thou that might be better spent on the LMP2. Even aside from the R&D benefit, winning at Le Mans has more marketing value than all of the aforementioned series combined.

Yeah, but they've already got the "we won at LeMans" badge. I mean, I don't understand why I don't hear more of "The only Japanese Manufacturer to win at LeMans AND the Only Non Piston Engine to Win at LeMans" more in Mazda Sales/Marketing shit.

Well it would be even cooler if they beat Audi for the overall win, with a LMP2 car Then they could say we've won it twice before any other Japanese manufacturer won it once.

As far as the engines blowing... well.. if Mazda wanted to replace my engine for free... I'd take it. New engine baby!
