AN Hoses and fittings
#1
I have a few questions about these. I am going to be using them for my fuel system, filter and such, and other places around the car for the bling factor.

What AN sizes do you substitute for normal hoze? Like...what is 6AN size like? 1/8in? 1/4in?

Is any brand better then another? I'm looking at Summit brand.

Pete, or whoever- I saw your fuel rail had an AN to hardline connector. I see then in the catalog but they say for use with their aluminum hard hose. Is your fuel rail aluminum? Or will it work with steel if you just tighten it enough?

Thanks guys.

As for brand I have had great luck with Russel. The good brands have a threaded inside on the outer coller that REALLY helps during assembly. The cheaper ones just have a barbed ring and it is a PITA and rarely results in a good install.

As for the hard tube adaptor, I believe my rails are brass. I actually have mine on the cooling lines, have not tried it on the fuel lies. It works well. I am not sure that it'd work on steel unelss the surface is really smooth. It's is a brass crush ring on the inside, and the problem with "tigntening it enough" is that the outer aliuminum fittings will strip and/or break

When it comes time to do your instlal post up here. Chad and I have quite a few successful fittings under our belt now and could probably provide a good step-by-step to make your stuff work first try. It's relaly not that hard once you get the hang of it, and it does work well.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Whatever you do, pick a brand and stick with them. I recommend Russel, but I have also used some the aeroquip fittings and I Have 1 summit fitting (not AN but an adapter). If you mix and match, they will leak. Not a lot, just enough to make a mess and get things dirty. Over the past few weeks I have gone through most of mine and switch everything out to Russel, I missed 2 and they are the only 2 seeping leaks that I have now. Just take special care in cutting the line too. I use a 32 tooth hack saw, but if you are careful a fast cutoff wheel can work as well, just be sure to clean out the inside of the line first.

OH and get some Vice protectors, this will keep the bling finish on the fitting when you are shoving the hose down in it.
