We getting old or are the bands we listen to getting lame?

In another sign of the apocalypse and our dying youth (WHFS becoming a spanish language radio station being the first), the Red Hot Chili Peppers are whoring Pepsi at a NASCAR event.

I remember they were these crazy, rocking mofos in HS. So young and innovative and now look.

Flea was my hero, too. I'd still kill to play like him, though, even in lameness.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

I have about 150 old school funk and break beats in my playlist from the late 70s and 80s, but yeah I see where you are coming from.

the chili peppers were awesome when they had frusciante (sp?) on guitar when he was still on drugs. then they kicked him out and got dave navarro who made the group just okay. then they let a clean frusciante back in and he really queered up the group. not that there's anything wrong with that, but i think californication was their first album with frusciante back and anthony keidis all of a sudden developed this lisp and weird wardrobe and sang songs like "take it on the otherside" (which i'll admit is a pretty good song as long as you take the lyrics with a grain of salt).

back in the day, they rocked out with punk bands in LA, had weird roles in movies like the chase and wore just tube socks on stage. now they probably hang out in jeff gordon's trailer helping him lube up... Sad

The quote of Jimi in the ending solo of Dani California is amazing. I'm still a Chili Peppers fan.

we're getting old, it happens to the best of us. Sad I often wonder how strange it'll be when we're rocking out to Nirvana and our kids are like WTF dad.

Chili Peppers are still awesome. They definately aren't the same band anymore. But in all reality, listening to bands that don't evolve their sound kind of suck. With all due respect to a band like AC/DC, they rock, but after a while you do get tired of hearing the same basic idea on every record

Yeah I feel like bands need to evolve and grow. Sometimes bands evolve into suckiness, sometimes they reach even greater heights. Realistically though most bands don't make music for a lifetime. They have their time in the spotlight, then time passes them by or they break up (or both).

I think right now there is something going on with music that is allowing more suckiness than usual through (even more sucky than the 80's). Digital production is drastically reducing the cost of producing an album and opening the game up to a lot more 'producers' than would have ever had a chance otherwise. Its kind of like how once people got their hands on Microsoft Publisher lots of people suddenly had the power to make shitty newsletters and fliers. And don't get me started on the evils of Powerpoint...
