So...

As most of you know, I had a 4.6L 2v GT engine in my car to start with, the stock motor. In November of 02 I had it dynoed, not much really done to the engine, a few bolt ons here and there, this was my dyno,

Decent torque, oh and that was though an automagic trans.

At VIR in Feb of 05 I blew that engine up, hole right through the piston, anyway, replaced that with a 4.6l 4v from an 01 Cobra, never had it dynoed, my lap times were lower at Summit and VIR than with the 2v, but I had changed the entire front suspension while I had the motor out and I had recently put in a TKO 5speed.

Well, first of this month I had the Cobra engine dynoed at Carlisle, in front of about 300 people, I was NOT impressed.

Something's f'ed up there!!! The data log showed my timing was WAY low as well.

We goto watkins glen anyway, Pete and I run together, you all saw the videos, I couldn't pull on him, we were pretty much dead even on the straights.

I get back home and pull the spark plugs, #7 is COVERED in oil, oh great, wonderful, this is great timing, 1 month from Hyperfest and I will probably have to rebuild my engine. I call up a buddy of mine that builds 4v drag engines to come over and look at it, while he is on his way over I start pulling the top end of the engine apart (yes, I took it out of the car, can't get the heads off w/ it in the car), well what do I notice? The #7 injector that is directly under the throttle body is UNPLUGGED! OMG. WTF! So I leave the heads on and my buddy gets there, we have a good laugh and I'm still flabbergasted, it has been unplugged ever since I put the motor in. I already had the cam covers off so he degrees my cams for me and resets the timing (left bank was a few degrees advanced). He checks the #7 piston out w/ a borescope then we do a leak down test, holds great, no problems, phew.

So, I put the motor back in the car (total elapsed time, 5 days). I finally got the exhaust redone and the car back down on wheels and arranged to have another dyno done this morning early, here's the results,

This motherfucker is going to be a handful at Hyperfest 8)

Is the idle noticably different now? I remember having lots of injector/EFI harness problems with the Z, and if that thing was down a cylinder, it was immediately apparent.

Anyhow - congrats on the simple fix Smile

Yea, but honslty, it wasn't bad before, just reminded me of a cammed big block. The idle is much smoother now. I pulled an injector wire while it was running just to get a feel for how much different the idle is.

All different dynos, so it's really difficult to compare. Regardless, 8 cylinders is always better than 7... Wink

I have a full 2.5" exhaust now too, I use to have about 18" of 2.25" pipe left over from the stock setup, w/ all 8 cylinders and the reworked exhaust, is sounds SOOO much better.

Well you have to remember it was also robbing power from the other cylinders b/c they had to work to move it up and down, I was expecting to see about 40hp from the fix, boy was I surprised!

what is the weight of your car? Are you close to the 9:1 ratio?

do you plan on trying to get the car down to 2700 lbs, or just pump up the hp?

There's no way I could afford the carbon fiber required to get my car down to that weight. I'll probably throw some cams in the motor and give it a decent tune, that should put me at the proper hp for my weight and give me some room to bump up the torque as well.
