New Enough has them for $50 also... andrew bought one, and I just dont like it. The mesh and the armor is real thin/flimsy stuff and I just wouldnt trust it. I'll need to buy another mesh jacket pretty soon with the temps warming up now and it will either be an A* jacket, or the same JR jacket as I have now in plain black.

i'd advise against a black jacket... they suck during the day when the sun is out... and people cant see them as well at night Wink nice light colors are the way to go... no matter what the squid stunnas are wearing...

All black is more better, you dont look like a power ranger when you are more than 3 feet away from the bike. Yes its vain, but I dont care.

I've never seen you in full leathers... thank god... but what the hell do you think you look like when you wear that shit?

lighter colors = comfort.... dont use RJs squid reasons to be in black... ICON makes some mostly white with some black on them for the guys with black bikes Tongue

I dont wear full leather to go to clarendon on a saturday night, dummy... and I really dont give a shit what I look like in full leather when I stop for gas in Deliverance, WV on a weekend ride.

If I can handle poorly venting black leather in 85-90 deg weather I think I can handle the mesh Wink

I'm riding every day, so I'll report back in a month Wink

The clock on the bank said 96 Deg when we stopped for gas at ~3pm on saturday, and I was never uncomfortable.... felt like we were riding through an oven, but it wasnt that bad at all, and I was in full leather.

I agree that black isn't ideal but white is plain Ross-ish.

The Rio is very thin compared to other mesh offerings. That is not my main concern with the jacket, though. The cuffs are velcro and don't offer that much "pull" resistance. If you slide on your arms in a spill the sleeves could get pulled up and leave your arm skin vulnurable. I won't say that my gauntlets wil cover it, nor should anybody else, because if your wearing mesh you're probably wearing thin summer gloves, too. The same goes for the waist belt - I could easily see it sliding up revealing a portion of my lower back. If you slide a good distance I could see the thickness of the mesh material becoming an issue - but not in a 20 or 30 mph lowside. The padding, if you have a typical fall over and look stupid accident, is just as good as any other jacket, though, and will suffice. I think that if you're going to go out and really wick it up you need to be in something leather, no mesh will cut it if you're headed out to West Virginia.

I wouldn't return the jacket, I'm satisfied with what I got for what I paid. As for the commute-able safety value of mesh, I believe that I'm a safer rider when I'm not concentrating on how hot I am wrapped up in a leather jacket on a hundred degree commute: sacrifice a little passive safety for a little active safety.

Anyways, I think the value of colorful leathes is quite limited. I've owned both bright colored ranger leathers, and my current black vanson and black JR Rio. I never had anybody notice me any sooner in something bright. If you're very concerned with being seen the vest investment you can make is a white helmet. If anybody is really going to stand by the "better to wear noticeable things than not be seen in black" arguement here is the spot to prove your mettle. [Everybody should remember the seventy something percent increase in visibility of a white helmet over any other color from their time in the MSF course.]

RJ and I went to Clarendon one night - we met a couple of my lady friends there. When they pulled up RJ stuck his power ranger jacket in their car and I had no problems wearing mine right into the bar. Think about how you're going to feel when you walk around in the bright colored stuff - you may say now "oh, whatever, the safety's worth it", but I can say that I personally couldn't stand walking around in my Joe Rocket Blaster. At night, from my experience, relfective piping along the sides of the jacket that a car would see if they couldn't see the headlight of the motorcycle is much more effective than a light color.

No matter what you buy, though, you need to ride like you're not seen. Drivers can "make eye contact" with you and be looking right through you. No matter what you're wearing people will cut you off, pull out in front of you, and block your path as quickly as you can blink your eyes.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

I definitely wouldn't have paid more than that for this one. If I wear going to spend $150 I'd rock an A* airflow.

This looks like my JR Alter Ego when it's down to the mesh.

i had this jacket, and i then returned it. it was ok, but i feel that RJ's jacket was a little sturdier. the elbow pads were excellent, the shoulder pads weren't very thick and the back protector....? if you can call it that was very minimal. try it on if you can, but i didn't care much for it. I'm also considering a mesh jacket now....but i want to try a perforated leather first. another note about the A* air flow: the wrist wraps are also flimsy and wasn't really weighted at all around the waist so it could come up and reveal a little skin or shirt. i know because i ordered the matching pants (and still have them) with the jacket (returned).

the two mesh jackets i did like were RJ's and Sameer's, but i'm not sure what exact types of jackets they had.

The jacket I've got is the CBR mesh - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_honda_cbr_mesh_jacket_page.htm">http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_hon ... t_page.htm</a><!-- m -->

which is the same as this one - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_phoenix_4point0_jacket_page.htm">http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_pho ... t_page.htm</a><!-- m -->

I have no complaints about it, its sturdy, comfortable, and it held up fine when I dumped it.
