Now I'm all about environmental conservation since I'd prefer not to live out my mid to late years of life in dystopian wasteland but more often than not environmentalists in the public eye come off as raving lunatic luddites hell bent on us all living in tents and eating(or smoking) grass.
However, slowly but surely many people in the scientific and environmental community are beginning to realize that to solve a lot of our problems we will have to find solutions that use market forces and approach things from a practical perspective. I thought this was a good article on the subject:
