Exige Compared to Elise
While the Elise and Exige use the same engine, chassis and gearbox, the Exige carries a higher level of standard equipment.

Key Exige differences
- Optional Elise Lotus Sport Suspension is standard
on Exige
- Forged wheels, stiffer springs and shocks
- Aerodynamic bodywork package
- Generates much greater downforce
- Greater downforce equals higher cornering
speeds
- Only produced with a hardtop
- Hardtop required to manage airflow to the
rear wing
- Body panels are produced using a 'hand-lay'
method
- Elise panels are formed under pressure in a
special Lotus molding process

Bodywork
- All CRP (Composite Reinforced Plastic) panels are produced using the 'hand-lay' method
- Gas strut engine cover support (internal release mechanism)

acceleration
- Allows more aggressive acceleration out of low speed corners in autocross competition

I'm hella impressed by the elise, I still see no reason for the exige, but I'm sure there's plenty of people that think they need it!

impressed? yes. for the money? no. the car needs to be 30k, not 40k.

my only student with one had his head up his ass. all i could think of the whole time was "oooooh what evil things I could do with this car...."

My experience was the same... same car actually.

I wanted to drive it sooooooo bad. In the right hands it would be downright diabolical.

The exige starts at roughly $55,000. I test drove the Elise, but I was not allowed to go to redline. Here is a very brief review:
The car is not that quick under 5500rpm at all. The clutch is very easy to use, like a Civic's. The shift throws are waaay too long though (the 4-5th shift brushes the passenger's knees). The Crossfire has much more response around town b/c all the torque of the engine is available in the low-mid rev range. The suspension is compliant to me, stiff but not too harsh. It is much more controlled than a mini cooper. The car was Saffron Yellow, so it got a whole lot of attention. For me, the steering wheel seemed awkward b/c it has no tilt. The footwell is very small, the seats are some of the best I've sat in, and the view outside the windshield is cool b/c you can see the curves of the wheel arches, so it's easy to place the car on the track. The test drive wasn't good, though, as all I got to do is drive around a busy city, so I couldn't test the handling of the car. It is very, very small.
