I don't really assume anyone is that interested in what I'm up to but I'm a discuss it anyway.
I actually won't even mention the the full why behind all of this.
I'm currently in the delayed enlistment program waiting to leave for Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas.
I should find out exactly what date I leave this Friday. It won't be before the 10th of January next year and probably not as early as February. There are a whole lot of people who are signed up before me and the Air Force only has one basic training facility.
After basic I will head off to my wonderful new school located on top a hill in the bay of Monterey, California. If you've never heard of the DLI (Defense Language Institute) http://www.dliflc.edu/ you're probably not as interested in learning a second language as I am.
I won't actually choose the language or even know which one I'll be studying until I arrive in Cali but my top four choices (which I hope they look at) are Russian, Persian/Farsi, Serbo/Croation and Arabic.
Anyway, my academic vacation from JMU is going to get a little longer.
If anyone has any questions about it ask em. I'm pretty excited about all of this but couldn't say a word (except to Mike@Vtech because he is an Air Force Reservist) until after I had passed the DLAB (Defense language Aptitude Battery) and knew I would be heading to Montery.

Not out of no where to me. I really don't want to get into my twenty year existance...because that's what it would take explain my decisions, but I've been flirting with the idea of enlisting in our military for years.

If you had learned to read English Jeff, you'd see that I don't get much of a decision at all. I won't even know what they have decided until I arrive in Monterey. But I hope above all hopes to learn Russian.

Were you visiting someone there or in a class or what Maeng?
I'm going to start a blog before I leave so that my close friends have an idea of where I am and what I'm doing. I'll obviously post up here still when I have a chance...and I'll be looking to out do Mike's MM flash with something even more intense.
But I'm really not leaving for a while so don't pretend like I'm gone just yet.

that place is very beautiful and very close to laguna seca. it's a great place to be in my opinion for the weather and the view. I would love to live in that area or atleast go back and visit often, it's a little $$ to live there though.
not sure how much you know about the area, but it's just south of san jose/san francisco and right along the pacific coast. Pebble Beach? yeah that's where that is. Monterey, CA is seriously a paradise area, and i for one hope you like it!
Congrats on getting in to DLI, and congrats in general on enlistment. And THANK YOU in advance for your service

i took a week long class out there in monterey. a buddy of mine from work went too and he knew a guy that was taking spanish at DLI so we hung out with him most nights.
you will be super impressed with the corkscrew at laguna seca. its much steeper in real life than any video or picture i've seen. i doubt i could run down the corkscrew without falling over.

My friend went there to learn Korean. He hated it...but he was kind of a slacker anyway. Good luck

Hey good luck! You're well on your way to becoming the next Jason Bourne! Well, I mean the language part at least. And then maybe since you're so close to laguna seca you can do some crazy driving too...just not in a russion taxi.

One week huh? Arabic and the other cat 4 languages are 63 weeks long. Hopefully I don't luck out in that department.

I've seen it on the map RayJay. That's about it. Only place I've been in Cali is LA...and I loved it there. I know several families that have been stationed there and they all told me how great it is.

I hope to earn those thanks. I'm really just happy that I scored well over what I needed to get into the DLI...sure the Air Force has a ton of cool jobs but how many of them are going to teach you to pick up Persian chicks?

I've always had direction. Even when I wasn't moving.

Korean is in a world of its own. It is at the very bottom of my list with Hebrew. Not because I don't dig Korean girls or Jewish girls...but because those languages are not easy.

I actually will be spending so much time out there that I'm hoping to find a way to get my car from Texas (where I'm going to leave it with my Aunt while I'm in basic) out to Monterey. Once I've been there a bit and they loosen up with the restrictions they first place on you at tech school I'll actually have some time to see the sights.
