i just wanted to find out what you guys thought about them from experiance. i have read all kinds of stuff about getting gases out and whatnot, but i wanted to hear what you guys thought (ie. people who know what they are talking about from experiance and not just asshat-ery they have read). sorry for bringing up whatever i brought up

Mike you couldnt be more wrong.

no shit, you're supposed to play along. john figured out that it was a script, why cant you?

as you can now tell, bLiNg rotors are a sore subject for some of us 'old timers' haha

Ill share a story I have about slotted rotors with everyone since its the topic at hand.

Back when I tracked my WRX, it was going through rotors a little quicker than I would have liked. So I got talked into buying a set of very expensive rotors from DBA that had all kinds of cutting edge garbage like pillar-venting (even before brembo used it) and supposedly used much better metals than typical junk metal commodity rotors.
But unfortunately, I couldnt get them as "blank" rotors. They only came slotted. I even asked if I could pay a little more money for them to simply not stick them on a cutter. But no dice. Of course they assured me all would be well, I could beat the hell out of the brakes, there are enduro subies in europe and austrailia running them etc etc.

3 track days later (less than 2 weekends)

all the way through

the reason we occasionally see high end GT cars with slotted rotors is because they are already running 14"+ rotors with lots of cooling, and thus have plenty of thermal capacity to spare. They can use the slots for tuning pedal feel and pad bite.

thank you kind sir. but, does anyone know why porsche, ferrari, and motorcycles ever used/use them?

Porsche - they claim it imrpoves wet braking performance. Ferrari.... just for the bling, I'm afraid. Ferrari challenge racers would trash a set of rotors in one weekend, I believe they successfully lobbied SF to let them use solid or slotted rotors for the race cars.

Motorcycles use them for unsprung weight - many of them use stainless steel rotors - they are lighter but the heat transfer properties and thermal capacity is not nearly as good as iron... but when you've only got 400 lbs to stop, its ok Wink
