Alternator, R.I.P.
#1
So I'm driving to school in NC from Winchester Sunday night and stop in Harrisonburg to see Julie and Rex. After i leave there for another 4 hour drive everythng went fine until i got dark. I had thought my alternator was going out for a while, but it wouldn't die. So of course the only time i don't bring tools along with me,my lights start to dim and if i drive over 65 mph, my battery light cuts on. Crap. Alternator is fried. Don't i feel dumb. Luckily I get all the way down to my apartment before the light is constant. Call my parents, get it worked out to buy a new alternator. Wake up this morning and go to Advance Auto to buy alternator. Repalce it in the parking lot of my apartment complex, acting like i'm only looking at the engine so i don't get yelled at for working on my car. what fun.

you need to live in my old house. if they knew all the foul shit that got spilled there and stupid/crazy car shit that happened, there'd probably be lawsuits and HAZMAT involved.
Your apartments have issues with you working on your car in the parking lot?

Yeah, actually my apartment complex is really clean, and they like to keep it that way,and none of the old people there like NTI students. I didn't want any of the Scary looking maintenence guys to talk to me so i avoided it.

I just replaced mine for the second time within 6 months......I think there is a voltage draw somewhere in the system that kills them quickly. I have also replaced the battery and regrounded everything (with di-electric grease.) Hope this one lasts more than a couple months.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Rob,

It's not that difficult, just watch/help people wrench on their cars. I used to fear/hate working on cars, but now I just take my time and think of a course of action before I start tearing into chit..

Happy Wrenching..

The really crappy part was that i was just in winchester with a garage in my backyard. parking lots are effective, but not as luxurious as having everything right there. I had changed the oil and put new brake shoes on,and nothing was wrong then. Sucks
