BTW, Ford's replacement interval on the belt is 120k miles......
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

In all fairness... it might, and it might not. Like Mike said, on an interference motor it's nothing to take chances with.

Mine is non-interference, I don't think Rex knew that when he brought up timing belt replacement that last few times that I have seen him.

Feersty, I was sure that the SVT motor *was* an interference motor. I could be wrong though.

You're wrong.

"Well my timing belt slipped a tooth or something and now i have 8 broken valves and 8 bent valves. Two dented valve seats, a cracked head, and two pistons which are dented as well"

Still convinced?

How many miles are on that thing? If Ford says to change the belt every 120K, changing it at 60K is a bit overkill. I don't think these engineers pull that number out of their ass. Maybe compromise and change it at 100K.

if they says 120k on something that serious, i'd change it at 120k. i'm sure when they say 120 they're giving themselves a safety margin even.

There seems to be some misinformation out there, because the Zetec is non-interference and apparently the SVT is interference. If you look up the Gates .pdf document on Timing Belt intervals it suggests 120,000mi while other documents say 60,000mi. I am at 60,1xxmi.

A guy from focusfanatics said:

"I called SVT on this subject awhile back. As stated, regular Zetec is non interference, and SVT Zetec is interference. The Guy at SVT recommended 100,000 mile belt change, but the printed material I have seen on the subject is non SVT specific and says 120,000. I suspect the SVT guy is just being conservative, and I tend to agree due to the rarity of the parts that are at risk. I doubt I will reach 200,000 on the car the way I drive, so it's a one time deal for me whenever I do it."

I think SVT knows what they are talking about, but too bad they are defunct currently.

Call the Ford dealer and ask what the service interval is.

Indeed. Or look in the little book in your glovebox.

The only reason I said anything is that the service interval on my timing gear is 100k...and it's a timing chain. To have a belt have a longer service interval than a chain is....retarded to me.

Most mfr's wont specify a service interval for a chain because really, it should outlast the engine and the only time to service it is when the guides/tensioners wear out.
