Here's my blog post about my Phillip Island track day:

Other random notes;

-There were more than a few rare/cool bikes out there. A RC30, 2-stroke 250's, a Benelli Tornado...
-Phillip Island management is way more anal than any of our tracks
-There were a SHIT TON of flies. I think there was some sort of seasonal plague in Melbourne and the surrounding areas
-Phillip Island has a popultion of Little Blue Penguins, which are a pretty big tourist attraction. They have burrows up to several hundred meters inland and you can do a tour to come see the adults when they come in from the ocean at night. There are also wallabies that live on the island.

-How many utes do you see?

After doing this I'm thinking that I might want to do more flyaway track days, albeit at tracks a lot closer than Australia. When I think about it, I've only ever driven/ridden on East Coast tracks, I'd like to at least do places like Laguna and Miller some day.

Nice writeup, sounds like an awesome trip! Too bad you couldn't video your runs, would have loved to see that scenery from your point of view.

Yeah that was a serious bummer. I've come to sort of expect the occasional nonsensical rule at a racetrack but this was among the dumber ones. I suspect that tracks that host major international events tend to be a little indifferent to sometimes even disdainful of track day guys since track days are small potatoes for them. Circuit of the Americas is a lot like that I think (on the disdainful side).

Well the good news is, without video, and 10000 miles away, we'll just have to assume you broke the track record :dunno:
