Chris- My biggest concern is your lack of involvement with the club. It's quite a jump to an officer position and it helps if you've been active prior to having a spot. I've NEVER seen you at a meeting, you just started an account, and did you pay dues this semester (sorry if I'm wrong on that)? That being said, I think you're the only person I'd support coming from that position because I know you've been waiting for things class wise to settle down some so you can become more involved. Saying you'll get more involved is great and I hope I see it happen next semester.
What is your understanding of the VP role and what are specific duties you see as a responsibility for the VP?

- He's been around longer than us and has been a member under some pretty great previous administration. I've only been an active member since the end of my sophomore year (about 1 year). I would like to see if there is any other reason why Chris has not been active this past year besides classes? Possibly had thoughts just like most of us about the past/ frustration? Also I think he is very similar to me as he has just sat on the sideline and taken note of what he could change. Just my 2 cents

This is a question I'd like to see a response for as well. I know you, and I remember how involved you were way back. I can't even count all the autocrosses we did together and I know you've been at the track plenty, maybe even more than me. Your major makes my brain hurt just thinking about it, so I can't blame you for having to step back from the club this year. The fact that you've spent the free time you do have patching an old bike back together tells me the passion is still in there.
However, what specific tasks do you imagine will make up this role. To me, VP is a supporting role. You're the second in line, you're the check, the failsafe, the quality assurance. You support the president, and together the group of officers forms a steel trap of excellent planning and management, keeping one eye on the big picture and year long goals, and the other on the tiny little details to make sure everyone knows what they need to know, when they need to know it, and everything runs without a hitch.

Cody/Joey
The VP role has been very stagnant in the past. This year, to be honest, I think Matt did a great job in trying to assist Cody whenever he needed him. I can't even start to talk about the amount of things he had told me he did for the club, and I commend him for it.
With that being said...the power of the V.P. depends largely on the president. Cody, you have had a lot of leadership experience and (from what I'm told, I really can't say on the matter, so please don't take this the wrong way) were more comfortable doing most of the organization of the club yourself. This is all good and well, as you have a lot of experience planning events through your experience with Red Bull.
However, from my talks with Dan, it was agreed that this would be changed next year if we were both elected. It is much more efficient if two people (or even more of the officers) work as a team to organize events, as many of them require too many details to be handled by one person. For example we can explore what happened at the car show this year. Simply put...the event was unorganized. Cody, this is NOT to be put entirely on your shoulders. There really should have been more involvement from the other officers (though I know each did put in a great amount of effort) in pre-organizing every little detail.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Dan and I have the view that VP/President will merge and become ONE role that BOTH Dan and I will fill (though he will of course have the title, power, responsibility etc of the president). What is Dan's responsibility, will be my responsibility. What is my responsibility, will be Dan's responsibility.

Expand this to every officer in the club. Each one of you should have a defined role (ex: the treasurer should know the most about the funds, the pr/sec should know the most about dealings with JMU), but you should all communicate fully with each other and to some extent all be a "jack of all trades".
In 2009 the officership (including myself) worked our butts off together as one. What did the car show look like?
All it is is early planning and organized communication. How would you go about creating an easy to follow, consistent schedule of events, and how would you get the message out?
Ahhh I remember that car show, I didn't know you helped organize that Godspeed, *holds out hand for handshake* well done sir.
The schedule of events will have every normal event that has been consistently in the books from year to year (i.e. autocrosses, karting etc), as well a few more as soon as the officers and I get together to decide on which events to hold.
Possibilities are:
-Detailing day at Miracle Wash with BBQ and big dan the man putting on tutorials (I'm sure they'd be willing to help plan this, as we'll be bringing quite a few people to their facility)
-More organized wrench days (which will be planned in advance instead of a forum-post day of)
-33W DRIVES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...where were all those this semester Gents??
-Camping/ Paintball trips (not all the events MUST include cars, sometimes it's good just to get the group together)
....these are just a few I can think of off the top of my head, I'm currently at the library so the officers and I can give this MUCH more thought if elected.
In terms of getting the message out...
The forum isn't enough. There are plenty of members (like I used to be) that just don't navigate the forums enough to recognize what can be going on in the near future. The email system is a great source but often gets clumped into the "JMU emails to ignore" category, and are overlooked. I think it would be a good idea to have a text-messaging system that is used on a more frequent basis that can let members know of events...because they're guaranteed to read it. This isn't to say that the forum and email notification system won't be used, because they most certainly will, they just have to be supplemented with another method.

The 33 cruises fell under the same thing you were worried about giving out stickers to people for. Its really easy for tihngs to get out of hand when 5-12 "performance" cars go for a cruise on that type of road with road racing enthuists behind the wheel. Its just risky and by all means, if you feel the risk can be managed then I would love to go on a cruise. Most of the cars in the club that would go on cruises have been broken all year anyways so that would be another reason it didn't happen.
Gas prices are also high which would limit participation unless those who are riding in the cars would like to pitch in, but then you have the uncomfortable asking for money if they don't offer which may take the fun out of it.
As far as the mass texting goes, the problem is there is no good way to do it. You can pay for a service that allows you to do it from a computer but the services are usually monthly fees and not very cheap and until you try them, you don't know which one actually works right and doesn't also spam all your members with ads.
That being said, I have something setup but it was so rigged and complicated that it wouldn't always work right and I never knew which members wern't gettign txts and which were. It involved our google voice number on the google voice app on my phone, and an app I paid for on my phone which allows google voice to send the message. It seemed to work great sometimes and sometimes barely at all. And you have to setup your contact lists right on your phone. Ultimately, it was a huge pain in the ass trial and error process that didn't work right all the time which just won't do if thats how you are trying to communicate with your members.
