2012 VW Beetle Turbo
#1
So my mom traded in her 09 TL yesterday for one of the new Beetles. Admittedly i was against it, and insisted that if she was going to get one it had to be the Turbo edition. Went to look at it a couple weeks ago and the test drive went well, just didn't seem to hold as well as a car sharing structure with the GTI should.

After we got it though I thought a little differently, fun car that moves pretty quick and you can throw around a bit in the curves. For whatever reason it feels faster than the GTI off the line, i compared back and forth with my brother's. The interior is very well done and the re-design is definitely growing on me. My mom was dead set on getting something a little more individual after having the TL, which for whatever reason everyone and there mother around here had. So the one we got was the limited edition run "Turbo Launch Edition" which i believe only comes in black and white.

I have her convinced to autocross and possibly change a couple things on it, so hopefully updates to come soon.

definitely the better new beetle to get. VW has a great turbo engine on their hands these days. she needs to chip it an burn off the tires at every light

Just two Sad , although my mom drives manual pretty well she just didn't want to put up with it on a daily basis especially since she has ankle issues. It is the DSG however.

Haha, definitely an idea worth considering. I also forgot to mention that for whatever reason they put 19's on this car. Makes for a slightly bumpy ride.

Ah that makes sense. I've heard the new DSG is pretty good! Just be thankful its not a traditional slushbox!

It's definintely not as jittery as in my brother's GTI when you first get going. You can tell though that it's focus isn't to be "sporty" like how my Ralliarts was, that car wanted to for you to decide when to shift and hated being in full auto. This car seems to prefer the inverse.

Only seen a few of these on the road and have to say I like the new style much better than the old! Props to your mom for being unique, TL's are everywhere

Yeah, in my experience DSGs feel like an automatic, that should you choose to flap the paddle, will shift gears very very quickly. Your old car was one of the most fun two pedals transmissions I've ever driven IMO. If I had the money (or felt like making a 5 year commitment to a maintenance whore of a car :-) ) I would totally buy an Evo MR as a DD.

So, small update:

The driver's side window had this insanely annoying problem where it didn't like to behave normally at all. If you pushed it down just a bit, then pulled up past the click for it to auto-up, it would go all the way down. Or just freak out in general. Even more annoying when you're just trying to clear a little snow off and all the snow comes falling into car. Went into the shop twice for this and they finally fixed it the second time on a recall.

Other than that, my brother upgrade his GTI to stage 2 and gave this car is K&N filter. Makes the turbo a smidge louder, not much else.

Oh and total mileage at this point? A grand total of 5800 miles. Yes, 5800. Still smells and looks new.
