hmmm, big life purchase eh? i might know what you're on aboot.

what's your budget for a sorted classic? you mentioned you don't want to spend money on the stang but i'm not sure what kind of nice classic would be in a lower budget than what you're already dealing with, unless by classic you are really talking about a fun something or other from the 80's or 90's.

i love your car but its nice to know if you wanted to sell it, you'd probably get all your money back or more (yer in NASCAR country after all, boy). what all do you want to accomplish with it? i thought that aside from some comfort items it was a runner.

The plan was to dump another $10kish into it over the course of about a year or two, but as we all know plans change  Like I said I've got some other priorities to focus on now. I mean realistically, I would feel comfortable spending $15k on an already sorted car that doesn't have to stay in the shop for months getting restored. I still REALLY want a Corvette or a more modern sports car too, so I think indecision is starting to have an effect. I even thought about selling the stang and caddy and getting a C6 as a daily Tongue

But yea, it is definitely meant to be a runner. I would want to get the inside completely restored though so it's comfortable, new radio, gauges all working, etc.

Rex thinks I should drop the T5 and driveshaft into it, tune and then decide. I think that's a good idea, he thinks I could get my money out of it if I still decided to sell it.

I think you need to just drive it more often. I bet you're not even driving it. You gotta remember why you got it to start with. You'll have more fun, and the mods will be more noticed.

Also, assuming you paid cash dollars for it, what's it hurting if it just sits around? I'm on my 5th car now, but just about all of them are paid for, so its just another insurance bill, right?

agreed. whenever i feel like lamenting the RS i go for a good fun drive, and remember why i like it and what i miss just poking around in it doing errands.

i think you're "safe" doing some small but crucial upgrades and seeing where it takes you, knowing a classic like that is actually something you'll get your money back out of. as mentioned, fix the tranny/driveshaft/tune and maybe put a little sound deadening in it, then go rip on it and if you still aren't satisfied with driving it, move on.

frankly, i kinda like the daily 'vette idea but you know that's going to come back on you at some point when you're putting miles on it like crazy as your only car. remember, its almost impossible to keep a DD nice!

I like this too. Make it a driver which you should be able to do for a lot less time and money than you had planned. At least it seems from the pics...

I think "just driving it" would make Lee want to sell it sooner. He's a comfort queen and being in that interior would just remind me how much work there is to do to make it up to his standards.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

There is a lot of truth in this.

Ahhh..I couldn't remember seeing inside shots. A lot of not fun work if your heart ain't in it. I'm guessing the seats need redone also?

Yeah, front seats, the entire dash, some electronics, stereo, new carpeting, relocate the relocated e-brake handle, headliner is fine, door cards, probably a lot of other little nickle and dime things to get it right.

Officially for sale. Priced a little high on CL to entice lowballers and hopefully make my money back on it. I don't plan on making any money off this thing, I am totally fine with breaking even.

If it doesn't sell by the end of spring then I'll probably get working on it Tongue

If any MM'ers are interested in taking this project over, you can have it at my cost (which is technically a loss after insurance, titling, prop taxes, etc.).

$6k! You're picking it up in Charlotte though

I would really like to see this stay in the MM family. My dad loved this car, so whoever gets it should love it as much as him. Also, my brother (NTIMan) built this motor, so if you have any, any, any questions he's happy to answer them.

Car is sold as of this morning. Guy came up from Florence, SC and trailered it home. He bought it as a 50th birthday present to himself and he has the EXACT same plan that I did to restore it....interior, transmission and drive the balls out of it! It definitely went to a great home Smile

I told him to email me pics of the project if he thinks about it..so if I get them I will post them up in this thread in the future!
