yeah.... this car isn't going to be doing much low load, low RPM operation, so I'm not too worried about it
Heck, even cruising on the highway, I bet this system is pretty much doing nothing. And besides, does it do anything at all once you're in closed loop operation? I would think the O2 sensor would mostly be in charge anyway, so maybe this is only to keep emissions down during warmup? Screw that, that won't kill THAT many polar bears. Ok, MAYBE a baby one with a respiratory disorder or severe infection, but that's natural selection dawg. Who am I to play god? :dunno:

I just don't see the benefit to capping it off :dunno: , only the possible problems (rough idle, low RPM hesitation, poor gas mileage, etc...) I'm not saying that it makes a huge difference, but why not hook it up the way it's supposed to be?

A few bucks worth of hose and a few minutes, I agree. forget the polar bears..think of the children, for garsh sake would somebody please think of the children!!!! ICE/EPA/CARB will tow your vehicle because it represents a danger to the public.

I'd likely have to remove the top of the manifold to replace those hoses. I like to have things functional and simple. I can always fix it later if for some reason I find it's causing problems. The factory did something dumb and I'm unfucking it and saving money. Win-win-win!

Both camps have valid points. I don't mind spending money to fix or improve something, but I also try to keep things as simple as possible. In this scenario, Channing has found that by removing the system, he is experiencing no ill effects and has simplified a system which was over engineered by the factory, all with virtually no expense.
Maybe after he does a tune up or puts some miles on the car he'll start to experience some negative effects, in which case he can revisit this part of the engine management and consider going back to factory. I know I've removed a lot of stuff from a lot of cars in the name of simplicity...

channing, i have great respect for you, but none of us here are smart enough to design engines for bmw (unless we're talking about that POS that was in the e46 m3).

Dang, I didn't redesign the engine! :lol: :roll: Anyway, three weeks later, no ill effects, no codes thrown or anything, fuel economy is unchanged as far as I can tell. That mod + an aFe filter and I have like at least 100 more HP. :thumbup: :dunno: The population of polar bears and baby seals around my immediate area is also unchanged as of yet.
