Maybe have a talk with him about what the $4-5k entails. If it includes interior removal, kill switch wiring, building seat mounts, paint, and a bunch of other little things then it can add up real fast on the labor bill.

If its $4-5k if you bring him a bare interior with the dash on the floor... then I dont know. I dont think the labor rates have gone up that much since he moved but who knows. Still top notch work, if you want it done perfect the first time then its hard to look anywhere else.

I know Dave recently had work done to the Z at Piper. I'll bet he'll know best about how much its running. He gets back on Sunday so I'd PM him or something.

I think Rex's suggested car has some potential...

For Piper, I think you're definitely paying a premium, but the craftsmanship shines through on their work. I personally wanted the best safety equipment I could get b/c a car built in 73 just doesn't have the inherent qualities that a modern car has when it comes to structural soundness.

I paid approx $3200 for my rollbar (14.5 hours), both seat mounts, harness mounts, fuel cell installation + cover, rear tow hook fabrication, welding in sway bar reinforcements, and fuel pump mount fabrication + install & plumbing. This doesn't include the price for the fuel cell. A cage is considerably more expensive, but I bet that rough quote is assuming you're delivering a car with a full interior. If you strip it yourself before delivery, you'll save a considerable chunk of money (however may be worth it to let them reinstall the dash around the bars for a professional finish)

You can find plenty of e36s for around $2000 in the Northern Virginia area, no road trip necessary. Just search BMW from 1 to $3000 on clist.

yeah^^. Damn Dave you got a lot done by them. hmm definitely something to think about. I took a look last night at one actually through a dealer, (yes I know you would think but...) it was lower mileage than most of the other cars im looking at in the price range, its only got about 150k and is a 95, and the first offer they give me is 3 grand. So there is plenty of wiggle room there, I havent even driven it yet as it was just traded in so they had it at the service bay parked in between a few cars. And yes, its green.

I am also looking at a black 95 325is coupe but has 180k on it, however the people seem like an older coupe and have had it serviced by this same guy for years (cromwell automotive? anybody heard of them?). In her email she made sure to mention all the trouble spots, instead of just going, its an older car, its got problems. She specifically mentioned exterior dings and rips in the leather (neither which I care), but that the engine was perfect.

So I will keep my options open, but these two looked the most promising to not be "completely" shit on. Some of the cars that start at 2 grand look REALLY rough, if I can get the 3 grand ones down to 2300-2500, id rather do that, just cause I can at least get the thing on track without working on it too much. That $3-500 dollar difference is something id easily overlook for the convenience.

Captain Henreh, do they typically go out? I mean shit ill buy em from you, can always use extras

Goodspeed, lol if you want something like that, contact Mike. Spec car will not look sexy, spec wheel= 15x7, and I dont think any sexy wing or m3 style bumper/stuff. But mine will be hilariously fun like the sc400 cause I wont give a shit what I do with it.

If you remember when Pete bought that 400 dollar E36 back like, 4 years ago, that was what was "wrong" with it, bad coil pack.

It's not what I would call common, but it's common enough, and I have no use for 'em any more.
