Help me identify a Merc

I do not, as a general rule, like Mercedes cars. I find them to be overpriced, ritzy, and entirely too heavy with too many gadgets, all of which appeal to old, rich people :-D.

However, several times recently one has driven by my house and I'm smitten. I don't know what it is b/c all I can get is a side-profile from a distance (foliage at the front of my property limits visibility). Since I'm not a Merc fanboi, I don't even know where to start looking. I've listed the attributes below, please help me ID so I can add it to my list of cars I want...

-V8 engine. It sounds awesome, which is the main reason I even noticed it.
-2-doors
-looks fairly modern w/ smooth curves, I'd say MY00+. Remember I haven't seen front or rear, except for catching the emblem on the trunk once while I was walking my dog.

I know that's a short list of attributes, but I'm really out of my league here...

they don't make too many V8 2 doors

SLK
CLK
SL
CL

that is in size smallest to largest

all are available with V8s, if you heard it, I would venture to say it was an AMG

thats all that I got

my guess would be an SL55 or something of the sort

well for years mercs have had pretty low quality ratings. i went to provide a link, but it seems things have seriously turned around for them...

Agree with Reed, sounds like an AMG. They are definite H&B'ed material...

The SL and CL's have 65 variants that are twin turbo V12's instead of SC'ed V8's. SLK has a n/a V8. The SL is the most gorgeous car of the last decade, IMO.

It's definitely not the SLK55, damn that is ugly.
It's funny how big the CL55 looks in the picture, almost like a whale; I'm pretty sure that's what I have been seeing and now I'm a little surprised I like it. It must the V8 growl that is turning me on...
