I am looking to buy a printer, my last printer was a really good photo printer, but I left that for my parents...
Does anyone print their photos, and if so, which is the best bang for the buck. I know it is probably cheaper to send out for prints, but I like to have this ability, plus the fact I have so much damn photo paper, and I can expense the ink anyways.
TIA
and an oldie but goodie for your pleasure:

thanks, I hope to see more responses from you with google.com, cnet.com etc.
Anyhow, I was looking for personal reviews from here, not people I do not associate with.

My only advice is to go to Newegg.com and buy yourself a recertified Canon inkjet - I bought an MP960 about a month ago, came with all the original parts, new ink head, new ink cartridges for about $60 shipped. It doesn't have a single scratch on it, even came with plastic over the LCDs, etc. There are some crazy deals there - just find one that gets good reviews and snatch it up.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

For photo printing, Canon is the best... but I can't recommend printing more than a couple a month or you're going to be buying a shitload of ink.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
i'm pretty pleased with my HP printers (easy to use and fairly cheap - ink is everywhere, even at costco on the cheap)
i've got the C5180 All-in-One with ethernet capability
mom's got two wireless printers (one for photos, and one deskjet for higher volumes) and i will definitely get a wireless printer as my next one.
HP makes shitty Mac software so I'm permanently turned off by them. Epson's ink heads clog if you don't print much - I learned that lesson the hard way (i.e. after zillions of dollars in ink).
On a better note, my parents and I have four Canon inkjets between us, and they've all been flawless. Great photo prints, even on the cheapies. My dad has a multifunction (MP830) and I have a newer cheap inkjet (iP4500 - was free with my laptop).
All of our Canons have dual paper trays, so you can keep photo paper in one and regular in the other. They also support two-sided printing, so you can save some trees while you're at it.

canon it is.
thanks everyone.
mike, thanks for your input especially.

Probably not the answer you're looking for but we ended up printing some wedding photos at walmart. It was really easy to submit them online and then just pick them up at the store later. It really isn't that expensive either. A few cents for 3x5s or 4x7s and only a couple of bucks for 8x10s. I don't think the lackey working the photo machine can mess anything up since their job is essentially to hit "OK" on the big photo machine and then put it in an envelope when its done.

i've always found that much better than owning my own photo printer. it's probably a lot cheaper in the long run.
owning things is overrated.
