little clarification on getting my license
#1
I finally signed up to take the basic rider coarse at NOVA in Alexandria this summer. I have been looking around to find out what i need to do to get my motorcycle license and it has been confusing the hell out of me, i figured you guys could tell me what I need to do. After taking the coarse at NOVA this summer what else do I need to do? Sorry for the stupid question,

If your over 18 and you pass the MSF course you just have to go to the DMV and take the written motorcycle exam. The MSF class counts in lieu of the riding test through DMV.

Its all here -

If you take the MSF course, you dont need to hold the learners permit for 9 months, or take the skills test - just the written/vision test at the DMV.

It was my understanding that you didn't even have to take the written test now, but I could be wrong. That's what I was told when I took the MSF last summer.

I already had taken the written test to get my permit, so I can't confirm that to be the case.

Well, I got it from the horses mouth, so to speak, but just take 2 hours and go get your learners, then it won't matter. Smile

I didn't take the written test until after I had done the MSF course. I wasn't 18 yet and figured they would force me to do the learners period anyway but either the MSF course counts instead or they simply overlooked it because I walked out with a full license that day. Anyway, I guess my point was if you take the MSF course then go to DMV you may or may not need to take the written test, but if you passed the MSF written test the DMV one shouldn't give you any trouble.

Study anyways, there should be study guides and practice tests on the VA DMV website - some of the questions/answers do no make sense at all.

+1... just a quick glace over for half-hour should do the trick, it's not too difficult

i actually failed it the first time due to questions/answers i didn't agree with regarding safety or procedure, riding in groups and passing rules or they'll be numbered questions like, "if a speed limit isn't posted, what is the speed limit in an industrial area: 25, 30, 35, or 15"
