Need some computer assistance
#1
There is a feature to disable programs when the computer starts up. I used to access this by clicking "start", "run" and the typing something in and clicking "ok". Problem I can't remember what to type in. I want to restart the computer without a couple programs starting up as well.

Thanks in advance.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

WinPatrol is pretty cool 3rd party program that does the same thing. plus it can warn you if something tries to insert itself in the start up list when you don't want it. also, you can make it so certain programs of your choosing start on a delay. helps with boots times for me.

+1, this is what you're looking for. Don't use regedit, you'll surely fubar something :-).

What OS are you running? Share that and we can tell you the critical programs to NOT disable.

FWIW, HijackThis is a decent utility to help figure out a lot of what msconfig tells you.

Start by disabling everything. If you want, leave systray.exe for your clock. As things dont' work, figure out which one it is in the list and renable it :-).

Disclaimer, I'm pretty hard core about my computer performance so I usually disable all the shadowing, 3d start menus, fading, and creature comforts.
