saw my first one on the road today in that crazy blue color. wow...it looked great and actually appeared pretty small. the back end is an amazing improvement over the old IMO.

I just heard some more details about the "synchroRev" transmission - seems like a neat concept, a cross between a convention smg and a regular manual. the ecu recognizes what gear you are downshifting too (from sensors on the shifter) and then rev matches appropriately

obviously actually seeing/feeling how it works in real life is needed to form a real opinion, but I like the idea

Yea seems like a neat idea. I read a review of it the other day and most things said were good. The onlly drawback was that they said if you downshift into too low of a gear it tries to revmatch and just bangs off the rev limiter til you slow down enough.

If the needle bangs off the rev limiter when you downshift, you're doing it wrong.

Just saw one yesterday. It was definitely sexy time.

that got me thinking...if this system simplifies shifting enough, i wonder if this will open the door for alot of really unskilled people (who shouldn't be driving manual in the first place) who are going to get into this thing and push this system into trying some stupid stuff like shifting from 5th straight into 2nd while riding the clutch until slowing down enough to engage 2nd.

that situation above is something i imagine a novice of doing and sending the system into a rev-banging episode. gotta wonder how many times someone will do something like that before it sets in that that's wrong...

also, what happens if the system is rev matching for you and you accidentally hit the gas to rev match normally? do you override the system or does the rev-match algorythm ignore you during the shifting event?

so you're talking like you'd clutch in, gas it up to xxxx rpms, and then downshit skipping gears?

you can downshift multiple gears in a single clutchstroke, it's actually more efficient than doing it gear-by-gear. You just have to adjust the revs that you match with according to the geat your shifting into.

The problem that is being pointed out is that if you drop down to a low enough gear without braking enough, you'll run out of gears and bang into the rev-limiter, which is relatively unpleasant.

my understanding has always been that if you're doing that you should probably be double clutching to avoid overstressing the synchros, no? or is that just on older cars?
