There's no way in holy hell drums are lighter than disc. Unless you got the uber SVVT crossdrilled rear drums.
I didn't think any ford still shipped w/ drums.

That's what I always hear "Drums are lighter than discs!" So, yeah, I dunno.

On the civics/integras, switching to discs on the rear adds ~45 lbs.

yep, and that is with identical everything other than brake hardware... i don't recall it being quite that high, but definitely 25+ extra.

How? That doesn't make sense. Are there some sort of mega size caliper brackets or something?
Makes sense to me, I mean, the drum itself weighs a bit more than a disc, but that's pretty much all the weight. Then it's just pads and springs, light stuff. While a disc setup has the significant weight of calipers and carriers on top of it.

Calipers, caliper brackets, ebrake hardware, rotors are heavier than the drums, and so on.

I've always heard that you use drums on drag cars because they are lighter. Less rotating mass as well.

Every drum I've worked on has been a big hunk of heavy shit. Maybe these lighter cars they make them smaller/thinner. Also every drum I've worked on has been 20yrs old or more.
The drum on the focus is actually pretty light, its not all that big.
I won't go into how I know this, but the only weird thing is that the hub/wheel bearing actually come off with the drum after taking out four 13mm bolts on the back side of the backing plate.
