Okay... and your point is? All I'm saying is if he's going budget, D8 offers a similar experience for likely less money. Paying more for better has always been a principle of mine but I don't think that's applicable given his requirements.

None really, other than to point out an inconsistency in your life philosophy because I'm bored.

There is no inconsistency because I don't believe D8 to be inferior.... which was the original point I was making. Thanks for the exercise though.

i've been thinking about this as well and been following this thread:

talks about using a flash memory camera on the cheap. plus flash memory has other uses aside from just camcorder video storage even though i think the only thing i have that takes SD cards is my Wii. so essentially it would be like buying tapes and such, but still, its potentially useful in other realms. and its cheap enough that if it busts, then i can say i tried it without being out like $700 or whatever some of those pimpy cameras cost.

I'm willing to bet my ZR60 has logged more hrs mounted to a rollbar than either yours or mikes has. I taped every single session of every single HPDE/Race/Autox that I've been to for the past 3 years. I have over 30 DVD's of video that I KEPT, not to mention all that's lying on the cutting room floor or still stored away on 320GB HD's in my closet. Granted the mustang is probably a 'rougher' ride than most cars, I just no longer think these 'cheap' digital cameras are up to the task of riding along in a track car.
Can you guys just give me some model names and I'll look at those. I don't want to take up valuable space in the brainbox for stuff like this.

I have a Canon ZR65. I'm finally unloading it onto my computer, after having actually taken the video summer of '05. Everything has been pretty good. It isn't crystal clear, but the vibrations aren't tooooo bad. I bought it used on Ebay and now that I can pull it off the tape and edit it, I think I'm really going to enjoy it. Mine came with all the necessary goodies except for a Firewire cable, and also has a remote and an extra battery. I think the only thing I wish for now is a wide-angle lens, but I'm going to try play with where I actually mount it first before I buy any more equipment.
I'm also very interested in a digital recorder, but doubt I'll consider it before this setup dies or I get a big raise :-).
What about the Elura 100? They seem comparable to the ZR's but with more features. I think I'm going to go with Chad's advice and get something ghetto/used for me and something nice for Joan.

Nice buy Chad. I love the HV20. Awesome HD recorder for the price, would like to see some shots once you get them loaded.
Andy, as I mentioned in the first post Elura 100 seems to be a great camera for the price. If you can get one from a reliable source on Ebay I'd say go for it. If you check my earlier post you can see an example of the quality around an autocross course.

Will do. I have a 1.5 minute clip on my gallery now of the baby (not of my ass hair as some might suggest). I'm going to do some outside video today and upload in a higher resolution to 'show off' .
The Elura's are great cameras. Just for in-car stuff I'd REALLY stay away from digital if at all possible.
