GM offering Toyota test drives

If you don't think that a lot of Saturn salespeople are going to put down those products in their showroom, even if that's not the intent of their corporate managers, then you've never worked in sales.

That was the only point I was going to make. I do applaud GM for trying a unique marketing tool, again, I just don't think it's going to work

If you believe most salespeople in the first place, thats your fault.

I know Toyota salesmen that feel they should lie about their own products to sell them.

Is it just me or does that JD power chart probably need to mention something about sales volume? I understand that Land Rover does not have the highest sales volume but I think some of the companies at the top could be explained away as flukes of ratios relative to sales volume and number of "defective" units. I might be missing the point of the chart...but I think that would explain jag being so high on the list.

I don't think this is a bad move for GM. I have been trying to express to my father the need to get some Toyota and Honda on our lot. If for nothing else then to sell some used cars! But it gives people an opportunity to compare the competition, even if it is a year or two old model, odds are it will give them some baseline for quality. We traded an 04 Camry S on a Nitro the other day, its a start I suppose. We also have an XB...also traded on a Nitro. I know I am not on the same point but I think having a diverse offering in used cars helps out as well. I think GM is saying "here is our car, its sweet. Here are their cars...they are ok. This is why are car is better, see for yourself!" I think it will work out well for them, it is ballsy and American and by-god I like it.

And while I am at it...another rant. Toyota and Honda really cannot get the minivan thing down in my opinion. I am in them all the time (new ones) at Circuit City. I just don't like the interior design, it seems like you are paying more money for a van with a less useful interior. I am saddened that Chrysler is changing over to a Honda-type gear shifter in the new Mini...but I think I can get past that, the dual overhead DVD players will make up for it. Seems like Toyota picks the worst supplier in the world for their over-head TVs...we are always replacing their broken units "under warranty" from the Toyota dealer with aftermarket units. They send people over to us, I guess it is cheaper to pay for a Jensen then it is to order the crappy Toyota unit again. Lay out isn't as good in the minis either. The new Odyssey would look sweet dumped on 20s....but that's all I have. Also, no Asian company offers a short van! I have met a lot of people who really like the shorter model, helps with parking. There was a guy in CC today telling me his dad just spent $40k on a Honda Minivan...but his dad still likes driving the 01 Chrysler Voyager I was working on. I'm sure this van was just his beater, and of course the son was hating hard on American cars in conversation...but I smiled none the less. All I had to do was show the Acura driving fellow the turbo-van to change his mind on Domestic minivans... Anyway, that's all I have to say about Minivans.
