Dual monitors, switches, and video cards
I take forever to do anything.... ordered a new setup today from Dell - $660, not bad with the 20" monitor.

might be a good candidate for that media center I'm looking to get. If this is around in Aug, I might be interested

It's the E line of Dell flat panels. They're still a couple hundred bucks but they're the budget line.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Ok, i unpacked this thing and went to hook everything up - and there's 1 video port out of the video card. Since its a "slim" tower, it looks to be about half as wide as the one i'm replacing - Dell is telling me they dont sell a video card that will fit in there that will support dual monitors (extended display) which is definitely not what I was told when I placed the order.

Is there a video card that will fit in there? Or is there simply not enough room?

Halp!

You sure it doesn't use a VGA splitter cable?

The tech support guy told me I can use a splitter but I'd get a cloned display, rather than extended.

You can get a USB "docking station" that will give you a second monitor. We use them all the time at work.

Well that's just stupid. The HP's we have at work use a VGA splitter for extended monitors, didn't know if dell was headed that way or not. Send that shit back and build yourself one on NewEgg

Dell is sending me a new video card -

I should have it in a day or two. Other than the dual monitor fiasco the PC is pretty nice I guess - definitely much faster and much smaller. I cant wait for 40" of widescreen por... artistic photos.

Does anyone need an old P4 desktop? Decent workstation, 1 gig ram, 2 cd drives (1 read, 1 read/write), wireless/firewire cards. I'll probably keep the hard drive for backup. I'll sell it for a happy meal and a handy Wink
