You cooks! Any suggestions?

So I bought this one today from a guy on CL for about half the price I would have paid online.

So, this may seem like a dickish question (and it probably is), but why can't you just put them in a pot on your deck? There's free sun and rain out there.

When you put them outside you have to worry about temperature extremes (it's already getting hot here) and bugs. The unit automatically monitors light and nutrient distribution through an onboard computer to make sure the plants grow as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Sweet, just ordered the master gardener kit so I can grow my own seeds and got done seed shopping online since I couldn't really find what I was looking for locally!

Got some yellow wonder alpine strawberries:

and Fresca strawberry seeds:


I don't know how it's going to turn out, or if I'll end up with hot ass strawberries, but I also picked up a mixed pack of peppers at Home Depot and some of these:
Habaneros!

so long as strawberries are inside, you should be okay with your light kit thing.

outside, i have not found a way to keep animals out of them.

Yeah supposedly they are ridiculously good. Here's a clip from a Washington Post article:

This would surely be the case with alpine strawberries if they appeared in markets at all, but rarely is this delicacy sold. Also called fraises des bois , these little jewels aren't much larger than your smallest fingernail, but the intensity of their flavor puts a normal strawberry to shame. When harvested completely ripe -- as they always must be -- they have a complexity not unlike the flavor journey that a superior wine takes between sip and swallow. As with fine melons, their seductive aroma plays a big part, too.

These look like they're going to grow bigger than a fingernail though.

Sigh, shipping is 2-4 weeks on the master gardener kit. These seeds are going to sit here for a while it looks like.

Bugs are more of a concern for me than animals, since the only place I could plant them outside would be on my deck. I mean I guess birds could fly in and eat them.
