How can that be? It's freakin huge! Laughing In that case, m30 all the way, if, of course, you didn't want that fancy alum 2.8... Yeah. Don't forget that the Alpina B6 3.5 just used E30 M3 springs to deal with the miniscule extra weight. And what a sweet, sweet car that was. ![]()

When I was at VIR in november there was an e30 with a v8 out of the 540. I will try to find more info on it.
So...the question comes down to this...do I buy this motor or not? I really don't know a whole lot about the euro swap other than the intake manifold issue which is easily taken care of. -Nick

oh HELL no, the BMW V8's suck. Honestly if I just had to have a V8 for some reason (250-300 HP isn't enough I guess?), I'd get a 'merican one. The LS1 is by all means a much better package. FWIW, a tuned s50 or m30 will make the same or better numbers than a 4L BMW V8. And they'd be lighter, smaller, simpler.

My guess is it'll go for every penny of 3 grand, maybe more. BUT, if it goes for under 2500, (and you had the money) I'd probably buy it but USE ESCROW.
I mean, a US S50 is gonna be as much or more than 2500 (esp. with DME, etc) but this is a totally different animal. And enough people have done euro swaps that it shouldn't be too difficult to wire. And Mmm, mm! 300 hp E30.

I coulda swore that the Euro motor had some crazy EWS II electrical thing that was a bitch to take care of...but that was back when the swap was actually being pioneered. One of the first to do it was this ian332isport or something guys...I'll search around later.
But Nick, make up your mind first. Do you want cheap 12v or do you want to spend money on a 24ver? If you go 24v, this motor will probably be worth it if you can pick it up for 3-4k. Any more than that, and you'll end up spending WAY more than a US motor would cost. As Chan brought up, a tuned (and cammed?) US 3.2 motor will be roughly the same (less the baller status).

Nick325is Wrote:So...the question comes down to this...do I buy this motor or not? You are a tool...do we need to go over and over and over with this? YOU HAVE NO MONEY! Don't listen to him guys...its crazy talk. Lets just put a damn head gasket or what ever it needs on the car and just drive it until the motor craps out. Put a few hundred bucks in the Spirit and get it to 250hp. You'll get more laughs per dollar from a car that does not look fast but is, then a car that isn't fast, but looks like it should be. To make the e30 into ANY of the various 500 things you have wanted it to be in the past 5 years it will cost you a TON of money. Now before everyone gives me the "e30s are cheap to make power" or whatever let me point out that Nick rarely does things half ass. He will want to buy ALL the bling he can and do everything just as it is supposed to be...no ghetto shit. So before you know it, motor swap, boost, 2.5L build, it will all get out of control price-wise just like the Daytona has for me...I don't like to ghetto stuff unless it is on the beater. So, get the e30 running again and painted, and get the Spirit in the 13s and you will have two fun little cars without too much money in either one. Drive the Spirit until it gets to expensive to keep fixing and keep the e30 until you can drop the untold thousands it will take to make it happen...oh wait...Anne will have those thousands....nevermind.

I decided to say no to that specific motor. After thinking about it I just don't have the time to do a swap right now. I will have to see how finding a job goes in the spring and then go from there in regards to a swap.
Until then I will continue to research my options and I will probably just fix the m20 for now and get the e30 back on the road...I miss driving it! -Nick
