Nah, blue tape comes off with pretty much no residue, and it peels up very easily.

I mean, you use it to tape off painted trim in a house, and that stuff doesn't have a clearcoat.

I definately had to have both my fenders repainted one time after using it.

Ditto. Plenty of people use it on their expensive bling like 911's, M3's, Ferraris, you name it. If it f'ed up the paint you'd best believe rich guys at the track wouldn't use it.

It is used to protect paint, not hold down paint that is already peeling off

the paint was not peeling off, this was on my SS after the fenders had already been painted when I got the whole car painted like 3 years before. I peeled off the blue tape and it lifted osme of the paint, and etched it in other places.

There's not an indefinite length of time you can leave that stuff on for. They make in 1, 2, 3/4, 9/10 day fashions. If you leave the one day stuff on for 4 days it's going to give you problems. That could have been the issue.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

No 'tape' is going to 'lift' off a good automotive paint. Hell, I've seen chemicals that can't take off a good paint job.

Well, if it were a bad paint job. Maybe some problem with the initial prep on the respray that caused the topcoat to not adhere properly... when the painters tape starts to really stick after it's use period were up then I suppose something could happen. I don't really know diddly about auto paint... house paints, yeah, but not so much on the metal stuff.

This is what happened on every Chrysler vehicle painted from 1979 to 1996.... If the basecoat isn't worth a crap the top and color might not stick. It might look good for a few, maybe even 10 years. But sooner or later, it peels off.

I can blast the paint off with a garden hose...

Also, SS homie, did the tape get wet? Masking tape turns into superglue tape when it gets wet....just ask the roof of the Daytona.
