I did a 1:29 in my NA 944 yesterday.
I'm guessing it's mostly tires with a spinkling of suspension in there.

What do you mean? It's the like saying a tire is 225/50 with the 50 being the aspect ratio (sidewall height/profile).

FWIW, when my "lowly miata" was stock on street tires I ran 34s and 35s, although im sure street tire grip has improved leaps and bounds since then. The track also looked a little bit narrower back then
