It really sucks crap like that happens. My mom took her corvette to the chevrolet dealer to have a cornermarker changed and have the tire pressure reading system looked at and he said he needed to put it up on a lift and take off the plastic cover underneath to change the bulb and it would probably take half and hour and cost like $25. I laughed at him and told him to go get me a bulb. He did, I popped the headlight, stuck my hand down in there, unscrewed the bulb, took it out, put the new one in, and lowered the headlight and told him we'd pay the $2 for the bulb. I hate mechanic shops and dealerships that do shit like that.
I also saw one occurence on some undercover scam show where mechanics were actually breaking shit on people's cars so they would have to come back.

I didn't get a chance to watch the video,56k blows. Anyway, a lot of mechanics/ shops defiantly do screw people over. I am a tech at a Toyota Dealership in Winchester. We are a reputable company.
Ryan, keep in mind that a Chevy dealership is required to charge the flat rate price for any work completed. So chances are, the flat rate manual for the corvette did allow for .4 or .5 hours to change a light bulb. Does it screw the customer? absolutely. do people pay for it? absolutely.
We're all at the advantage that we're car guys (and girls) and are smart enough to change a light bulb on our car, or a friend/family members car and not get beat by the book.
Even Toyota gets screwed by us, because on recalls/ warranty work, we can usually complete the job quicker than the book says. that is a perk of being a mechanic.
I wouldn't pay $25 to get a bulb changed either. I'm not targeting Ryan to start an argument, but I would like to clear up any misconceptions about the high prices of automotive work. There are a lot of people that get paid with the money you spend Techs, service writers, repair men for equipment.
A lot of shops definatly are retarded and screw people bigtime, and I'm sure thats what this thread is all about

I know what your talking about with the flat rate or piece rate work, but its the fact that he tried to tell us he needed to put it on a lift, remove the cover, etc etc when he knew damn well he didn't have to do a bit of that.
