I got my car back today...
#1
The first week I had the car a lady in a Suburban backed in to me. She admitted to not seeing me, and that her vehicle was too big. Anyway, the damage was minor: a dented bumper, some paint ripped off, and clearcoat ripped off the hood. Her insurance (Progressive) sucked to work with, and I eventually just took it to one of their approved shops...

The results? Cross-posted from my site:

Quote:So I got my car back...
And returned it a few minutes later...

1. I was not told to bring in the check that Progressive sent me a long time ago. I had to put the repairs on my credit card. I had previously asked the insurance guy what I was to do with the check and he never answered.
2. The car still had compound all over it. Am I expected to detail my car when it was already clean when I took it in?
3. It had a paper floormat in it, but someone with dirty feet obviously drove it beore it was placed in there. I thought it was odd that it was spotless and hardly crumpled. Am I expected to get my carpets shampoo'd?
4. The hood latch takes three slams to close. They said they didn't remove the hood, but I'm 100% certain it was not that way when I took it in. They said they'd adjust it.
5. My washer nozzles might as well have not even been put back on. They hardly function.
6. The fender liner is missing a screw and therefore hanging down a bit.
7. The hood emblem, which used to be flush with the bumnper is now obviosuly held on by a very small piece of two sided tape. It wiggles when you touch it and has about 3mm of space between it and the bumper.
8. There is some minor overspary on some black pieces in the bumper, which I'll end up tocuhing up myself to bar any further f up from this shop.
9. This tops it off... My plastic rear window, which they had no reason to even get close to has some deep scratches randomly across it. I left the car with them and they said Progressive will come out to take a look at it today.

I'm willing to bet a dollar they try to screw me again. Yay for half-assed repair shops!

I'd highly recommend against both Progressive and Suburban Auto Body in Herndon.

sorry for the shitty experience. I've always gone to CarCrafts in Springfield and i've had good experiences there. I've gone there for numerous break-ins and collision repair. They're pretty customer friendly there as well. They mostly work with USAA insured motorists.

I hope that all of the problems with the s2k get fixed Sad

I had a few names of great shops, but Progressive wouldn't agree to any of their estimates and I sure as shit wasn't putting out $1000 to get my car fixed properly.

Oh well, maybe small claims court will make Porgressive realize their mistake of trying to cheap out on a car enthusiast's mint car. I will not let this rest...

Don't waste any money going after them. If they don't want to pay out they won't. If you want to go after someone I would say the shop. The emblem corner cut was a way to save money. They still got cash from you for it but got to send the new one you paid for back...more money in their pocket. The window was likely damaged by the covering sheets they threw over the car. They are often covered in hardened paint and can scratch if you are not careful. Also the compound all over the car is fairly common. Almost no body shop will "detail" your car after working on it. It is strange though that they wouldn't just spray it off real quick and take a second to protect your carpet. Most bodyshop managers will notice a particularly clean car when it comes in and will take pains to make sure that customer doesn't get angry. The people with the clean cars are the ones that will never let you live it down if you mess up. The bodyshop business is really hard to make money so they will do what they have to to keep the costs low as possible.

It takes me a lot to get angry enough to yell, but I was unpleasant to say the least.

Yelling at people that you want to fix a problem doesnt get you anywhere.

I was always very polite with Tom on the phone about the Diff, and they have offered to rebuild it for me for free - I just havent sent it back yet. I made it clear I wasnt happy with the situation but I never yelled at them about it.

A favorable resolution; who woulda thunk it?

All my issues were addressed. Hood latch fixed, washer nozzles working, trim clip back, I was shown that the hood emblem is installed properly (I dunno, not a major concern), car was washed (some minor dirt left inside, I'll just vacuum it up), and Progressive will be paying to have an upholstering shop install a new rear window from Honda.

This is not only acceptable, but great because after 6 years my rear window was getting pretty ugly. Heck, I had even considered getting a glass windowed top before all this even occured. This time up, I'll be using a mat when the top is down Smile

Yeah, it is a royal PITA, though. It is all stitched. I noticed this morning that one of my S2000 on the front fender was a bit crooked... grr... fuckit.

I can't imagine it's labor intensive enough to be more expensive than changing to a glass top (+ how much it actually costs), but I'd run that idea by them.

right, changing to a glass top is far more expensive than stitching in a new rear window will be.

glass windows are nice. Both of my verts have had them. The S2K has a cloth top right? The Lebaron had a white top, but it was changed to black vinal. The Sebring is cloth and o-so-nice.
