New Powerbooks...

I explained that later in my post... BUT... the entire NetSec team at AOL uses macs. Most of the engineers at RightNOW (my current job) use macs in some form.

I'm not saying all... I'm just saying it's common.

not bad, cheaper than I expected, BUT, no one pays 'regular' price for a Dell. 30% and even 40% off is relatively common, which makes the price difference pretty substantial.

I use *nix as a desktop environment at home. It's been stable more better longer than the windows environment that was just problem after problem.

I have XP and I'm just sick of it. Vista is no better. I also have OSX installed and Fedora. I tried Ubuntu and it's alright. I just can't stand using linux as a desktop os right now. It's just too much hassle.

Edit - The XP install on my laptop is doing great.

I'm using FC3 at home... it's yippie skippie stable for normal stuff.

Getting my accessories to work, though, I just gave up. My iPod already has everything on it, P2P has been a nightmare, nad gaming isn't going to happen.

If I didn't need a new bike I'd get a Windows laptop and run my accessories off of it. It's just nice to have my nix box without any persistant problems.

Yeah, linux is only ok for BASIC BASIC desktop OS things. Basic word processing and email is about it. If you really want, you can listen to music! HOORAY!!!

For the average person yes. For a computer literate person there's a ton of stuff you can do with Linux and its all free. The downside is games but I don't play PC videogames anyway.

Granted, and I'm quite computer literate. I'm a CCNA and worked in information security for a while. It's a pain to have to work to make everything function, though... which you really do have to do. At work, sure, I'll fudge around with stuff for a few hours. I want to come home, plug in my camera, and not have to rebuild my kernel because I forgot to include USB support... you know?
