Alright fools, the time is drawing near and we need to give our cars some extra bling to make them look like hot shit. I don't have much time this week, and the weather is total shit, but a freind of mine is going to detail my car for me on Friday afternoon, and I'm passing the word along to you guys. He's been a car detailer for quite some time now and from what I understand does a very good job (this will be my first time using his services). You guys should give him a call and arrange an appt.
Matt can be reached at 540-630-1513

detailed the car this weekend at home: wash, wax, touched up chips with touchup paint, and took off the faded windshield wiper arms and spray painted them flat black so they look normal again. for a 10 yr old car, its looking pretty good right now!

Why are you so bent about a touchless car wash then?

got car 3 years ago.....washed it........realized that silver doesnt get dirty so i quit washing it, primed it about a year later.........wash primer? hells no, had it primed for a year........or more...... Just got fresh paint in december so now im trying to make it last, so from december on out its touchless only so my paint blings forever. Let me put it into RJ terms for you. "Well you see i use mobile 1 and change my oil every 3k miles so that my engine will last longer/run stronger" There's an analogy that you can understand, same principle

You need to protect the paint, not just not touch it. Polish/wax/sealant/etc... It may prevent swirl marks in the paint, but the paint itself will not be for the better.

That doesnt even make sense... a better analogy would be "wash/polish every 3 months so that the paint lasts"

Preventive maintenance, yes it does make sense
mobil 1 @3k miles=touchless carwash
decent synthetic @5k miles=good wash mit etc etc
shitty oil @~5k miles=fund raiser car wash

Which would be analogous to washing/claybar/polish/sealant regularly.
Not neglect.

primer doesnt mind being neglected, and its hard to find a hose on campus :-\ everyime i go home i powerwash it clean so its all gravy, and since i DONT have a hose i think if im gonna get my car washed at a place ill make sure its touchless instead of going to some mediocre place thats gonna scratch the paint/do a bad job. I want the best like the rest of us when getting services. I guess im wrong for wanting the best?

If you wanted the best for your paint, you'd do alot more than send it through a touch less car wash every 6 months.

yea, after the sideskirt cracked i stopped caring since that has to be fixed that whole side has to be resprayed/faded into the rest of the car and buffed again anyways, so if i gotta pay 600 dollars towards some paint work i might as well have it be useful right?
powerwashing is bad? touchless car wash sans soap, what's so bad? its not a hardcore pressure washer LOL its pretty weak, and if the paint chips/flakes its got a warranty and i get my entire car resprayed w00t hopefully that happens

powerwashing will cause dirt/road shit/grime/etc to pit in the paint. technically, you're supposed to not use any nozzle from a garden hose, but thats annoying

You dont know whether the water they're using is clean or not, or have any quality of the cleaners/soap used in the wash, or if there's dirt clogged up in the air dryers. Too many variables that can all make your car look like shit.
