For Sale 2000 Suzuki GS 500E
#1
Hey guys I'm not a member of MM but one of your officers suggested I post this here. I have a year 2000 Suzuki GS 500E in Harrisonburg. It's a perfect beginner bike or cheap transportation. I've had the bike a little over a year. Guy I bought it from dropped it in his driveway and scratched the right side but no damage other than cosmetic. Bike has less than 5000 miles on it and has clear title. My family owns a motorcycle shop so it has been professionally maintained. I'll try to get some pictures posted, and I'll take some new ones today when I go ride. PM me or email me if interested.

Hey,

The pics don't work (as you've heard before) and also was wondering what you were looking for in the price. I've been possibly looking into getting a bike :-)

Thanks,

GS500s are so slow. Anything over $1400 would be a huge ripoff.

it's a good learner. It's quick enough so you'll be satisfied, but you will want something faster after you learn. I've gotten up to speed on this thing as well. This is a GOOD learner bike, you will gain the confidence you need for a newer/bigger/faster bike if you choose to do so. The 54mpg doesn't hurt either Wink

supras can be/are slow too, and the price of a car/truck/bike is all relative to what a potential buyer thinks it is worth. Bashing as your first post is not the way to make a good impression and stay on this forum for long.

OH, so sorry for speaking my mind. GS500E's are slow stock. That is a fact. Naturally aspirated Supras can be slow, yes, but the relatively small cost of a twin turbo makes the car almost twice as fast. I know of no such mod that would make the GS500 conisderably faster for a percentage of cost akin to that of adding a turbocharger to a Supra.

My point is that GS500E's are slower than 95% of bikes. They are nearly 4 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile than bikes that cost only $500-1000 more of the same model year. Just because its slow doesn't make it a good starter bike. An ideal starter bike would be something easy for a novice to handle (ie, less aggressive riding position, less "twitchy" throttle, well balanced) but at the same time be able to adapt to the skill of the rider. Any beginner who buys a GS500 is going to outgrow it FAST.

Might as well buy a moped.

there ya go, much better off giving some actual reasoning than just making an unqualified and slightly rude comment out of the clue Smile

agreed

and i can also attest to the GS500e being out grown, lol. I already want a new one, but i'm going to hold onto this one till i get more experience. Look out for me getting a nicer, quicker sport bike in the spring Big Grin . Great learner though, it's giving me a lot of confidence (i keep myself in check by reading the crash stories on bike forums though).

Sorry I haven't been able to reply sooner...internet has been in and out for a couple days. Yeah I hav to figure out the picture thing. I'm meeting a guy today to look at the bike but I am asking $2000 for it. For those who think this bike is slow, it's not meant for going super fast...that's what GSX-Rs are for. It's meant to be a first bike or just something cheap with good gas mileage. (although there is a race division for these and Yoshimura makes pipes and upgrades for them but I agree it would be a waste of time) I thought I would grow out of it in 30 days and felt like I did, until I came back to the Burg and started going out on some really twisty mountain roads. This things is so light and flickable that it is a blast riding Skyline Drive or up through GW State Park. Once you get the hang of it, dragging pegs and high speed corners with crazy lean angles are no sweat. I've had it for a little over a year and would probably keep it but I'm going to the dark side and getting married....and looking for a GSX-R. If you want a picture either PM or email me at scottcj@jmu.edu
