Yeah, I agree that extra heat in the brakes isnt something you want, but I don't believe it to be a significant amount. I have absolutly no quantitative data to back that up. All I have is a guess by using the situation I described earlier.

hrm, I didnt think my posts were unclear but maybe they are so let me explain better.
In an applied situation (ie- on track) there are certain corners where you may need to slow down a only a little bit. Brakes work really really well at slowing you down really really fast. Therefore, hitting the brakes, even for a split second will overslow the car. This is about the worst thing you can do from laptime perspective. So you lift briefly, decelerate using the engine (and aero drag) and when you bled that little bit of speed off you turn in.
I really wasnt saying anything at all about brakes not being good to slow the car, or heat in the brakes, or anything of that nature.
