Just because you can get a $500 tax deduction on it doesnt mean you'll actully save (or get back? I dont know the rules on this) when tax time rolls around

oh oh oh a deduction for just scrapping it. Ok, gotcha. And no, you won't GET whatever $$$ that is, you'll just subtract that from your taxable income, so it's not going to be much $ at all.
