Pushstarting in 1st is harder because the wheels are trying to turn the engine over (rather then engine turning wheels).

I must be missing something...but that is the entire point of a push start. You want the drivetrain to start the engine up.

I've always done mine in first and never even given it a second though.

It is always easier to roll start a car in a higher gear. Duh.
