How do I know if a transaction occurred never got to the bank or if something unauthorized shows up? I also check my credit card bill every month line by line to make sure there is nothing unauthorized. I've caught enough mystery fees and transactions to not allow any institution to "watch it for me."

Evan, thanks for the links. Apparently hadn't put in the right search parameters to uncover free Money Plus; might check this out take a crack at it...

Mikey - whether they were there or not at the beginning of the year doesn't really mean anything. It wasn't compelling enough, and there wasn't anything driving the switch for me, to make me dive significantly deeper into it. That's what I'm doing now (and polling you guys for other experiences). Clearly since I enjoy it somewhat and have been doing everything manually for my whole adult life, I won't mind giving it "a little attention" going forward Big Grin .

Sounds complicated. Less transactions to monitor if you just hit the ATM and pay cash more often (Less room for fraud too). Also you dont have to be in that awkward situation at lunch where your co-workers are trying to figure out how to split the bill, you can just lay down your cash and be done. I definitely wouldnt be using any kind of free ad based site to put in financial info.

To be clear, I ALWAYS carry cash... but I do 95% of my transactions online.

You also don't earn rewards (like the free first class ticket I used to fly here this week) by paying cash.

It was only free if you keep no balance...I doubt most people can do that. I'm not anti credit card..but cash is so much easier. I keep an amazon card for purchases on amazon, and about 95% of my online transactions are on amazon. I'm not particularly anal, but I keep a pretty close eye on comings and goings of money because I am a pretty big saver, and I never felt the need to have an external tool to monitor transactions.

I do, so it was. I pay cash for things like lunch, occasional bar tabs and taxi but that's it. Everything else is much easier with credit card and I get free shit.

I have 9 accounts (checking, savings, 401k, credit card, etc.) with 5 different institutions and I like to make sure I'm not getting ripped off by them or others who endeavor to steal it from me. :dunno:

......... Maybe most americans, but I would hope all of the people in MM would be intelligent enough to realize carrying a balance is going to cost you big time.

I do everythingg I can on credit or check. Provides a history that is easy to record (instead of trying to pull out a piece of paper everytime you pay in cash).

I do everything in excel. I also don't day trade, so the monthly statements for Mutual funds/roth/401ks are pretty easy to keep up with. If you are looking at your investments 5x a week, that is impressive; I just choose not to spend my time doing that. As for bills, I do check my credit card and checking balance everyday to check for fraud; but with BB+T and Bank of America apps on your phones nowadays, I can do it while chilling on the couch watching TV.

Monthly reconcilation = good enough for me; but I dont have kids to worry about their future.

I don't carry cash 95% of the time. It's a pain to carry bills and change around. I also don't carry a balance ever on my credit cards, I also use them to get more miles. Using someone else's money for free for a month and getting benefits for it is a win win to me.

Most credit cards also have really good claims processes, so if you get mugged or get your wallet stolen it's way better to be able to call and cancel / dispute charges than it is to wish you had that $500 in cash back.

When you carry your Shield will your attitude towards carrying cash change? I mean... why carry a gun if you've got nothing worth having?

That's pretty off topic, but no it won't change. I got my CWP to protect myself and others from harm. I could really care less about getting robbed...and just because I am getting robbed doesn't necessarily mean I am going to pull my gun out. NC is really weird about grey areas with force met with equal force.

Your life? Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I wouldn't pull a gun on someone for stealing my cash. The chance of something going wrong is a risk I'm not willing to take for $100.

Obviously you should just always be carrying around at least $1000 cash so that the jury will feel more sympathetic when you have to shoot your robber.

+1000000

Even if something doesnt go wrong, some money or things is not worth taking a person's life.

btw, I hate cash, wallets, and carrying cards etc. Even after moving to this, which I love, I still want less in my pockets.

Give me NFC tap to pay in my phone, official state ID on my phone, and insurance cards on my phone and i can throw a wallet in the trash forever

If you need your wallet to tell people that you are a bad motherfucker, you aren't a bad motherfucker.
